The bad news. Arizona is a really good team. The good news. At least we aren’t Kentucky.

@WildcatUKx Criticism is fair; personal attacks are not. Most of us know the difference. Unfortunately it is part of being a public figure, but I hope some of our less mindful fans can take Derrick’s criticism and also improve.

Let me remind everyone that these "kids" make more money than most people in the state of Kentucky. They should be criticized if they are playing horribly #BBN

@TBrown_80 He mounted his big defense tonight because he knows he’s under the gun. He knows if he doesn’t make a big move, it’s over. There will be a new AD, and the first thing that person will do if it’s not working is get a new guy. I don’t think anyone is being patient. We all know.

We ran the Italian and the Negro out of town for these results, but now I gotta have patience? And this is AFTER they won? If it’s another year of Karl Ravech saying “… if Kentucky can get it under 10 points before halftime…” I’ll become the Joker.
Matt@mat1y_p

@TBrown_80 We ran the Italian out of town because he couldn’t meet standards but are okay with this guy not hitting standards because he wore denim in ‘96. A lot of the fanbase doesn’t care anymore TB and it’s a shame

@KySportsRadio It’s a positive that he is defending himself. It shows fight and fire, as opposed to the “aw shucks” stuff we saw all season.

This whole radio show is probably the most open I have heard Pope in a long time. Some of the comments could be quibbled with but I do think he is MUCH MORE effective this way than all the “beautiful” and “specials”
Tres Terrell@TerrellTres

Mark Pope: “Yes, the amount of losses were unacceptable, but there was one against a team outside the top-40.” “Only 5 teams can claim that.” Says they’d rather still be playing in NCAAT of course but says sometimes people let emotions get in the way between each game result.

@KySportsRadio It’s completely fair, because part of the fan sentiment is attributable to those years. People are restless because of no Final Fours since 2015, no Elite Eight since 2019. Not all of fans’ displeasure with the state of the program can be laid at his feet.

Mark Pope on his radio show compares Kentucky the last two years to Kentucky the four years prior
Keith Taylor@keithtaylor21

Pope says Cats haven't met goals, but making progress. ... "I'm not talking about meeting the standard of where we're trying to get. Clearly, we did not do that, but we are making progress in in the four years before we got here, we won one game in Nashville. In the last two years, we've won three games in Nashville, and clearly the seed hasn't been a good as good. But in the last two years, we lost to the number five and the number six team in the country to be to be put out of the SEC tournament. "In the four years previous, we lost to number nine, number 35 number 67 and number 81 to be knocked out of the SEC tournament. In the last two years, we've won three games in the NCAA Tournament. In the previous four years, we won one game total in the NCAA Tournament. That doesn't tell the whole story, but for the people that love Kentucky, they just want to know that we're making progress. Those are real hard, solid numbers that may be surprising. Go look them up. The winning percentage is higher. The NCAA Tournament success is higher. The strength of schedule is ridiculously more difficult, and all of that done in the context of having one of the most unfortunate health trends in the history of Kentucky basketball. And so in those sense, senses like we haven't met our goals, clearly, but we are making progress in that part of society. And I really bring that up because I think at times, our guys feel like, man, everybody says this is the worst it's ever been. It's not. "We're actually making positive project. We're making positive progress by the numbers and and I'm grateful for the work and the commitment of our guys, and we're going to keep going. And the thing is, we have to keep getting better and better and better as we as we grow this program to the point where we're actually hanging a banner. And this is all part of the process, and we have nothing in our offices, in our locker room besides hope and excitement for the future."

A thing isn't broken because every part of it is broken. They had some good players and more worth developing. Keeping most parts intact should not scare away a couple of true difference-makers. And in a different context everyone looks better.
Patrick Fox@whatdoespfoxsay

@RowlandRIVALS I still don't understand the argument behind returning as much as possible. I get it in theory, but who wants to return as much as possible from a roster that was put together terribly?

@Buckman_33 @KyleTuckerCBB Beating Tennessee twice, winning at Arkansas, and beating St. John’s is better than a D- in my book, but I certainly understand your frustration

@plgthree @KyleTuckerCBB I would argue this year was a D-, the only saving grace from an F was making it solidly in the tournament. Lowe was a loss for injuries, but they happen, he didn’t have a backup. JQ was always a bonus and it didn’t work. We still likely spent more than any other on this roster

Curious where Kentucky fans stand after two years of Mark Pope. Sweet 16 last season, epic first-round win and second-round blowout loss this season. 1) Grade the Pope era so far. 2) What must happen next season to feel confident?

@KyleTuckerCBB He needs a GM and someone to help him evaluate talent so he can focus on coaching basketball. He needs to commit to an identity, and focus on building the program in that image. I think he’s so smart he thinks himself in circles.

@KyleTuckerCBB In a vacuum, last year was a B+ and this year a C. Yes, he dealt with injuries but there were some ugly losses. The problem is Pope is partially paying for the sins of Calipari’s last few years. No Final Four since 2015, not being a real threat to win it all.

This is the type of game where you can’t take your best players off the court. Denzel and Otega have to be on the court at all times.

@CBSSportsCBB @KentuckyMBB Painful to watch, for a generation of KY fans. Coach Pope was an integral part of the best Kentucky team ever. We desperately want him to succeed. The look on his face after the SC three is heartbreaking. So happy the season didn’t end there!

@KyleTuckerCBB Turns out Cal still has it…in the seasons where he gets a Darius Acuff as opposed to a DJ Wagner. No offense to DJ, he’s not an awful player. But he isn’t a generational talent. Acuff is Cal’s best pg since Maxey (who turned out to be unreal).
