Apple almost replaced Mac OS with another operating system. One ex-Apple executive built it from scratch. 🤯 Meet Jean-Louis Gassée 🇫🇷 > Former Apple executive. > Left Apple after internal power struggles. > Started Be Inc. in 1990. > Wanted to build the future of computing. > Created BeOS from scratch. > Built for speed and multimedia. > Real-time audio. Smooth video. Proper multitasking. > Windows 95 looked ancient beside it. > Booted insanely fast. > Lightweight. Stable. Years ahead. > Mid-90s Apple needed a modern OS desperately. > Final decision came down to two options: > BeOS or Steve Jobs’ NeXTSTEP. > Apple chose Steve Jobs. > That decision changed tech history forever. > Jobs returned to Apple. > NeXTSTEP became the foundation of macOS. > BeOS slowly started dying. > Microsoft pressured PC makers away from BeOS machines. > Palm acquired Be Inc. in 2001. > Shut the entire OS down. > One day later, developer Michael Phipps restarted it as open source. > Rebuilt everything from scratch. > Called it Haiku. 🌸 > Still developed by volunteers today. > Still ridiculously fast in 2026. > Still runs beautifully on old hardware. Apple chose the future. But BeOS became one of tech’s greatest “what ifs.” 🔥

@Dazzafrazz @pnkrtn_ @TorontoPast And you have yet to prove me wrong, Hamasnik! You fat fucking hero Ford had to tell you scum to quit celebrating mass rapes and the kills of Jews because the rest of the planet was starting to notice. Fucking welfare queen.

@pnkrtn_ @Dazzafrazz @TorontoPast Man, its almost like contempt is the natural state to hold for the urban parasites who cheered Covid deaths, had cake parties while livestreaming Hamas butchering Jews, and defend Sidhu because he killed rural people. Each and every Torontonian is scum.

@Dazzafrazz @TorontoPast You are, queerbait, and that's what makes it so funny! You laughed when Albertans were suffering, you cheered during October 7th, and now a small piece of your childhood will be stripped from you after decades of uselessness. Now, don't you have some mass migration to vote for?

@Hockey_Is_All If you’ve ever lived, anywhere that isn’t India or the rural Midwest, you’d wholeheartedly agree that Toronto is gross. Bad weather. Ugly architecture. Literally zero history - basically rose in the shadow of Montreal. Natural beauty? Zilch (except for a cold lake).

I love Toronto, I was born there, and I have a lot of family there, and I go there a lot. I love Vancouver, it's my home where I grew up since I was 6 years old. But, it's painfully obvious that people from Vancouver can't stand Toronto, and people from Toronto either never think about Vancouver, or only have nice things to say about Vancouver.

We chatted with some Vancouverites to see what they really think of Toronto

@marcelpociot I don't like Laravel because of how complicated and slow it is, but it is a mature piece of technology and has a pretty good track record for security. Unlike certain technologies coming out of Meta

Why do people want to use vulnerable React Server Components when they could just use PHP and Laravel instead 🤷‍♂️

@blkkovffe @erinotoole No, most Canadians know this. The Hudson’s Bay Company is taught about in Canadian History. It predates the existence of this country but it’s a huge part of this country’s origin story.

New work with @AlecRad and @DavidDuvenaud: Have you ever dreamed of talking to someone from the past? Introducing talkie, a 13B model trained only on pre-1931 text. Vintage models should help us to understand how LMs generalize (e.g., can we teach talkie to code?). Thread:

@TristinHopper Please, Canada was never almost entirely devoid of racial animosity. I grew up in the late 80's and 90's watching my grandparents feud with the "n***er across the street". And in the early 2000's after 9/11 nobody trusted Arabs. Drop the revisionism.

Generation Z never experienced a Canada that was almost entirely devoid of racial animosity. It's explicitly racist programs like this that are absolutely supercharging it.

@davepl1968 @TinaDescovich Yeah long term benzo use will absolutely wreck anyone. Benzos and alcohol are the only two drugs where withdrawals directly will kill you. Trying to blame SSRIs is wild. Good catch, Dave

Both of my children at one point were prescribed SSRIs. One had insane hallucinations the first night. The doctors said that it was not a result of the meds. I know I am not a doctor but he didn't ever have hallucinations before take the pill, so I used my brain and didn't continue giving my child the drug. The 2nd child years later also had mild hallucinations the first night. It was a different medication but still an SSRI. Again, the doc said it wasn't the drug. But that if I just gave it to him for a week he would settle in. There is no way on this earth I wanted my children to settle in with any of these drugs.

We as as society need truth in psych meds. The lack of full cogent disclosure and no plan for exit or worse crash exits have damaged themselves for life. Let us pray for my friend Jordan Peterson and a complete and full recovery. Let us pray for strength to his family.
