There was no Hajj subsidy ever in Indian history. Just last year (2025), Indian Muslim Hajj and Umrah pilgrims contributed ₹174 billion (₹17,400 crore) to the Indian aviation industry, all white halal money. That so-called Hajj subsidy was essentially the Indian govt inflating state-controlled airfares and then portraying partial reductions as a subsidy. In reality, it served as an indirect mechanism to keep Air India afloat through govt-backed payments.
