I worked at Twitter during the 2010s. The place was a censorship machine, all in the name of “trust and safety”. Elon buying the company and rebasing it on absolute freedom of speech was a massive win for everyone, on both sides of the political debate.
kache@yacineMTB

As someone who read Twitter's code base all the way through, including commits and random team design docs. Elon buying twitter actually saved the western world. You guys have no idea the kinds of shit that extreme ideologues were cooking up

Yet again Farage displays his misogyny and hatred of female journalists challenging him. No woman should ever vote for Farage or Reform.

@Alberghetti2468 @visegrad24 Pretty sure we have no official UK military combatants in Ukraine. At some point we were training them, and I'm sure some individuals have gone to fight. But no miltary fighters

@visegrad24 VP JDL IS CORRECT ON THAT! Example: The UK is ... well... They are sending THEIR OWN NATIVE ENGLSHMEN to Ukraine TO FIGHT. Yet, they are allowing the IMMIGRANTS To Stay In The HOMELAND! Seems backwards and somewhat dubious to me...

@allenholub Too often I have seen devs belittle or gatekeep ux improvements with a lazy excuse that the user can just read the docs. We can and should do better for our users.

I *really* disagree with this👇. The pile of articles and FAQs that those systems spit out are NEVER useful. I know how to use Google, and call tech support only when the answer is not otherwise forthcoming. Even if you were right, though, the very facts that they must call into tech support at all indicates a flaw in the UX at minimum and significant structure problems at worst. That needs to be fixed. Don’t blame the victim.

@GergelyOrosz @Pragmatic_Eng Strange concern tbh. You have the same number of staff so just get more clients and charge less hours per client. Or suggest extra work with the same clients. Clients pay for results not hours spent

Interesting concern about GenAI coding usage at a consulting company: "Company leadership is concerned how using LLM tools will impact billable hours (that it will reduce them.)" From the AI software engineering tools survey I'm summarizing, to be published in @Pragmatic_Eng

@danversbaillieu Id imagine they will be a debate in parliament right? If elected then surley any gov is entitled to then enact their manfestio. Not sure what difference this is to the last goverment bar this one will have more legitamacy on its manifesto as its been ratified by a geneal election

@D_Blanchflower @RishiSunak He stabilised the economy after the damage Liz Trust caused. Also deciding to not borrow more to fix issues and look for sustainable ways to improve the economy. But yeah, get labour in to borrow more, increase tax, put off foreign investment + put more pressure on education 👍🏽

@CeeMacBee @campbellclaret Cant see how this law has been passed because we are no longer in the Eu. Surely we passed our own laws before leaving as well?

What has Brexit ever done for us? - Briefings For Britain Brexit has allowed the UK to avoid the EU’s Digital Services Act.  Instead, we have the Online Safety Bill. Whether one is better than the other is hard to discern – but we were able to debate the Online Safety Bill vigorously in the House of Commons and the House of Lords, resulting in many changes and amendments to the bill. EU members were not able to do this for their Digital Services Act. This is why we left! Public scrutiny of legislation is important. For too long we have simply followed whatever directive or regulation was passed down from Brussels. This has created lethargic politicians and given us ineffective regulations. Brexit is changing this for the better.

Of course Leave voters are pissed off with Brexit and how it’s gone … because they were sold a pack of lies by Johnson, Farage and the whole lot of them. And the whole country is pissed off that the most consequential issue of the last decade is not even part of the debate. But why should anyone be surprised trust is lower when we had a compulsive liar as PM, followed by an economic illiterate followed by someone who cant do politics? Don’t underestimate how much seeing the back of this lot can lead to a better and more serious politics

@MarinaPurkiss I am not a fan of his. However, raising the tax threshold is an intersing idea. Those affected would certainly spend more and boost the economy. To see if that would generate enough other tax to offset it though
