People buy stories. Any product beyond basic human necessities is a story for sale. It either tells an interesting story, or has one behind it. We know it when we buy a book or a movie ticket, but somehow forget it when it comes to other products.

ok its no longer funny... how is this ad bloated garbage making so much money? Genuine question what about this is appealing to the userbase? There are surely 30 other games out there with the same premise but 10x better. Why this one? Please make it make sense

I used to have a lot more fun on this website. Hot take though; I don't think it's only because of the changes Elon has made. I've just been growing more grossed out by the way social media(not just X) pushes people to fight over shit that doesn't matter

@postalcioglu @LRH_Superfan Of course. But the Hadith are so technical in the chain of transmission, the Arab language and culture is exotic, and the two decades of the "war on terror" and jihad memes over the internet... make it funny. The sudden realisation that the comparison works makes the joke work.

@FischerKing64 Quick update: Laptops stopped being aspirational a decade ago while you were in your cryogenic sleep. Have a nice day 🫂

Apple selling cheap laptops means it’s giving up on being an aspirational brand. Means it’s run out of ideas - which has been obvious for a while with the goggles and the thicker phones and iPads. It’s like if Mercedes entered the compact truck market.

@mweinbach imagine yourself comparing a $1,300 worth mac to surface laptop. that's how ridiculous this post sounds.

Microsoft has the perfect MacBook Neo competitor with the Surface Laptop 13 but it's just a little bit too expensive If they can get it down to $600, that's your Windows neo competitor. At $899/$999 you're getting to MacBook Air territory and the Air is simply better

One islamic state — spanning from Indonesia to Morocco, with combined armies exceeding 3 Million soldiers, Pakistan's nukes, Turkish drones, Iranian missiles, oil from the gulf. Who will dare challenge this state? #Khilafah_Is_The_Shield

@QXsToo @X What you (or we) want means nothing as long as your teammates disappear blue ticks we pay for without explanation. I'm sorry for you since you work for a company that lacks consistency, integrity, credibility, and responsibility.

As a user, it's simple. I open the @X app. Here's what I hope to see — and I suspect many of you do too: 1. Great, informative, useful, or entertaining content (by humans, machines, or companies) 2. Real, authentic — even “boring” — posts from the people and networks I actually care about 3. No spam, bad bots, or reply farming As an X employee who uses it every day, I believe we’re actively building toward exactly this. Does this match what you want when you open X?

@nikitabier Thanks for proving my point

@nikitabier @___4o____ Current algorithm rewards quick reading, vague posting and hate farming. High quality articles is beyond the intellectual capacity of X's ongoing pathetic attempt at making money from verbal cage fights, no matter what reward you try to launch.

@primaltrece @oubagaku The US doesn't even make up the majority in the potential readers of an English translation. Creation and dissemination of knowledge in English is completely decentralized. Acting as if the US is to English what China is to Mandarin makes zero sense. They are irrelevant cases.

@primaltrece @oubagaku You're talking as if the US dominates the English language the way CCP dominates Mandarin. A good English translation can find huge funding anywhere in the world outside the control of US govt. Why would a publishing house in Melbourne or Toronto need American state funding?

if you know 2 languages, your native language and English, you didn't really learn another language. given how prominent it is, it's more like learning 0.5 languages. on the other hand, a English native speaker learning another language is like learning 1.5 languages

@primaltrece @oubagaku The main problem with Mandarin is that it's hard to expect a healthy translation of a work by the creator if that work is not welcome by the Chinese authority. Their language doesn't run on a global free market of ideas/contributors like English.

@postalcioglu @oubagaku i think the only one on par with english might be mandarin, and less so russian. Mandarin is obsessed with absorbing loanwords and translation is a massive project undertaken by the government (one that is used to governing 1.4 billion people) Millenia-long text corpus too

@oubagaku Learning English as second language frees you from second hand knowledge. It opens your world to a huge mass of originals and high quality translations for almost anything. A native English speaker learning another language might benefit too. But it's not even close.

What Americans think the Mediterranean Diet is: - Whole grains - Olive oil - Colourful vegetables - The occasional sad sardine - Moral virtue on a plate What Mediterranean people actually eat: - Lamb, constantly, at every celebration and several non-occasions - Pork in about fifteen formats - Salami, prosciutto, pancetta, 'nduja, and several more that haven't reached Sainsbury's - Fish multiple times a week - Eggs every morning without discussion - Cheese in quantities that would concern a British GP - Full-fat yoghurt, not the pastel-pot kind - Butter, cream, and animal fat as standard cooking mediums The French consume an extraordinary amount of cheese per person annually. They are not suffering. The Mediterranean Diet sold in books is the photogenic fifteen percent of what they actually eat. The olive oil is real. Everything else got quietly edited out.
