Just finished watching the odyssey and I’m going to give my honest full review on it without spoilers My rating would be a clear 9.5/10.0 I can see it being all the way up to a 9.8 I loved that there wasn’t any dull moments in the film, had you engaged throughout the whole 3 hours. There was moments in the film especially in the beginning that felt rushed I assume bc it was filmed on IMAX but other then that was well paced Now some downsides I felt - some of the actors voices in the film through me off and made it seem a bit to modern. I’m not going to name names but once you watch it you will have that feeling or at least I did But once the film settles in a bit you kind of get used to it. Stand out performances of course go to Matt Damon and Ann Hathaway. Overall some of Christopher Nolan’s best work. Go watch it TRUST ME it’s worth it.

Nick Fuentes DEFENDS Nolan's Odyssey from the seething purists "Everybody's an Odyssey expert all of a sudden... you missed Wine Dark Seas. Why isn't it colorful? Wine Dark Seas, ո*ggеr f*ggot. Checkmate. It says it right there in the book."

So the film is groundbreaking because Nolan made another movie about a sad faggot?

Nolan's The Odyssey isn't Homer's, it's Nolan's. It doesn't bend but breaks the foundation of who Odysseus is. By Nolan taking away Odysseus's hubris and pride, he rewrites the entire moral landscape of the tale. In Homer's poem, Odysseus is suffering from a lethal dose of vanity. The gods, particularly Poseidon, are putting a check on his arrogance. He's a man who much needs learn humility before he can touch his home soil again. Nolan's version is a man broken by a meat grinder war and gets tossed around a cold universe. His story is of endurance. He's just trying to survive. He's a man who believes his own soul is too corrupted to return to civilization. This all flips the entire architecture of Homer's Odyssey. Odysseus greatest triumph, the use of the Trojan Horse, is now his greatest shame in Nolan's Odyssey. It less about the gods punishing him, and his psychological inability to reach Ithaca. This is exactly why Nolan's Odysseus is humorless beyond belief. He can't stand that he can deceive so many so well. Every lie he conjures takes him further away from Ithaca. By centering guilt and unworthiness on Odysseus, Nolan dilutes the character to singular symbol of the guilt-ridden soldier. This characterization of Nolan's Odysseus actually ruins his third act. What did Odysseus learn from being a guilt-ridden, deceitful soldier? Well, it's best to kill 'em all and lie to them before I do it. The ending to Nolan's Odyssey is a relapse, not a resolution. His Odysseus has learned nothing on his journey. Now it's time for him and Penelope to abandon their posts. Cue the Dark Knight Rises theme. Michael Caine nods at the two of them. Roll credits.

There are definitely aspects to the film that are annoyingly woke, like the casting of Page as a warrior. Travis Scott as the bard is so silly that it sounds like right wing satire of the movie. That said, I don't think it’s right that the film has the “demographic makeup of Los Angeles circa 2026.” There are probably at least 500 actors who appear on stage in the movie and probably only 15-20% of them are non white. And most of the non-white characters had pretty sparse screen time/speaking roles. The casting decisions were not wholesale demographic replacement, it was more like Nolan added a sprinkling of non-white characters onto a mostly white cast, maybe out of Boomer attempt to appear non-racist, maybe out of attempt to comply with the new Academy guidelines that require X amount of diversity to win awards. In my view, the demographics of the film are more reminiscent of a Singapore style system where you have a core and recognisable ethnic majority alongside a small amount of diversity

Nolan strips the gods out of The Odyssey entirely. Only goddesses show up, and then only as PTSD hallucinations. Nolan’s apologists will say that he did this because he was going for a more “grounded” film. Oh okay. So then why does Ancient Greece have the demographic makeup of Los Angeles circa 2026? Why is there a tiny little woman running around pretending to be a dude? Why is there an Asian guy delivering the line “we’re Greeks from Ithaca”? Grounded? Really? Grounded in what? The apologists are letting Nolan have his cake and eat it too, like always.

I have not seen The Odyssey yet, so I can’t give my final verdict on it. All I will say is that these “actually the movie isn’t woke” takes from conservatives strike me as implausible. Casting a self-mutilated trans-identifying female as a male warrior is one of the wokest things any mainstream film director has ever done in a movie, by any objective measure. It’s hard to imagine any context that could somehow make that choice not woke.
