@ThreadOrder Lighter and stiffer is probably a big factor, as there is more shock transmission. Also, he's very explosive and mechanically efficient (great stretch), which makes the passive tissue do a lot of work. Usually something you want, but could be a risk factor with smaller tendons.

Many factors, but I wonder in Alcaraz's case (second time with right arm issues) if the trend in modern racquet specs (lighter and stiffer, with poly strings) + poor quality balls, are stressing the arm muscles more than prior eras. hughclarke.substack.com/p/alcaraz-gets…

Why are so many top tennis players getting injured? 'It’s almost like a crime scene. Who are the suspects? Is it the schedule? The balls? The rackets? The number of night matches? The lack of recovery time? The massive increase in intensity?' thetimes.com/sport/tennis/a…

Really convenient to have this revelation in 2026 and not in the months leading up to November 2024 when you spent every waking moment calling Kamala Harris a bloodthirsty warmonger.

@bloviate70 @swingvolleyy @BenRothenberg The added hyphen is not that egregious, in fact Spanish researchers often add it so that bibliographic software does not do stuff like interpreting the first surname as a middle name. The fun abbreviation would be "Da. Foki", Foki being his nickname.

@swingvolleyy @BenRothenberg Point taken, but if it just said "Fokina," would anybody care or have any doubt whom they're referring to? --One could make the case that adding a non-existent hyphen is even more offensive!

One could write a sociolinguistics dissertation about the way #Wimbledon haphazardly shortens surnames on the scoreboard.

@SoaringTennis @josemorgado Courts 2 and 3 have a roof with a rectangular hole for the sunlight. It's quite nice for the spectators since at any given point along the day most of the seats are shaded, but it definitely makes a weird shadow in the court.

@josemorgado This is so bizarre. You really can’t see anything when the ball goes there. Not the first time I’ve seen a wacky shadow/sunlight affecting a court in Madrid in a pretty significant way.

A seven year US resident with visa went to Australia for two days for his dead sister's memorial. On return, he was detained for over 30 hours with no phone. Officials called him "retarded", canceled his visa, and deported him with a 5 year ban from the US. The only explanation:

@JeremyFoley @ThreadOrder Yeah, they've been using that in football (the Euro one) for a while, and it's also used in the NBA and likely many other pro sports. It certainly creates a videogame-like effect.

@JFPuget @paulg The materials for all aircraft have improved, as has propulsion technology. What hasn’t improved is physics. With the same mission concept it’s going to have the same relative disadvantages as Concorde versus conventional transport.

What most people don't realize about Boom is that if they ship an airliner at all, every airline that flies internationally will have to buy it or be converted against their will into a discount airline, flying tourists subsonically.

Saludos 👋

I'm conducting interviews rn and so far it's so bad that it makes me think ageism might not come for us millennials. I'm gonna be an IC til I retire baby. The ipad/chatgpt generation is some combination of too brain rotted and too overridden with CS majors who have zero passion.
