@ratlimit @squirrelypocket You'd think so, but this actually isn't the case. While it is true that you have 50% DNA from each parent, you don't necessarily have 25% from each grandparent. When you split and recombine, then split and recombine again you don't necessarily get an even mix.

A 25% and a 0%: kid is 12.5%
So 12.5%- 25%=18.75
12.5%-18.75%=15.65
15.65-18.75 = 17.2
15.65-17.2=16.43

@squirrelypocket Impossible - Ancestry fraction denominators are necessarily dyadic (1/2, 1/4, etc). 16.2% = 81/500. Were three of your bastard forebears each born to a woman by the seed of four men ?
