I've received reports of these new “speed cameras” popping up across Maryland. Like Flock, they’re privately owned. Unlike Flock, these likely contain *pounds of copper*… which I'd never suggest anyone take advantage of. Neighbors might not mind, though.

@giveashitnature Actually, here's a question in return. Does glitter serve any real useful tangible function to humanity? If not, just ban it completely and get rid of the concept.

There is no such thing as "eco-friendly glitter." Regular glitter is a microplastic. It enters waterways, gets eaten by fish, and accumulates up the food chain. Biodegradable glitter was supposed to fix this. It breaks down over weeks instead of lasting centuries. But research from Anglia Ruskin University found that some biodegradable glitter was actually more damaging to aquatic plant growth than conventional plastic glitter due to metal additives in the coating. The EU banned plastic glitter in 2023. The US hasn't. Should we ban it next?

There's nothing "wrong" with Tesla's windshields. People imagine that such numbers come from an inherent "weakness", especially since Tesla is an "evil" company, a "moral weakness". But instead it comes from design tradeoffs. * Tesla windshields are bigger, more surface area, more chips * Teslas have a shorter hood, the more a windshield sits forward in the car, the more they are hit * Tesla have a lower hood, the closer to the ground, the more often rocks hit the windshield * Tesla's windshields are more sloped, which also contributes to more damage when rocks hit. Most of these tradeoffs were made simply because Tesla's don't have an engine in front like most cars. They get better visibility and aerodynamics as a benefit -- the tradeoff being more chips. Tesla gets its glass from the same suppliers as other car companies, so there is nothing inherent to Tesla glass. For people who don't understand a subject, they use the cliche of a "inherent weakness" or "moral weakness", that a company like Tesla has something inherently wrong with. They apply this everywhere, such as in my field of cybersecurity. When there are incidents of hackers breaking in, or flaws in products that hackers exploit, people bring out this cliche/trope, blaming the problem on inherent weaknesses, or moral weaknesses like sloth, greed, or lust -- they simply weren't taking security "seriously enough". But the reasons are almost always far more complex. This cliche/trope is just what ignorant people like because it allows them to be "better" without them having to be "technical" and understand the details.

Swedish government just published a broken windshield research paper. All car brands, over two years Guess which single car brand has an absolute 'top' place A moronic 6x more broken windshields per Tesla than the best Oh .. now I told you Link: trafikverket.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva…

2022 in France. I accidentally slept on my glasses and broke it. So I was roaming Paris looking for a way to fix it. I left the hotel and was walking on the streets. Roamed a couple of minutes, noticed the Eiffel tower. Then it hit me lmao. I was so proud of myself for the first time ever. I really wish everyone gets to experience this. That one moment

@GreatSalo @HustleBitch_ We weren't updating those real time tho, and still aren't. Legally we are required to sell at a price posted on the label, prices changing between the time a customer picks up the product and the time he buys said product would get us into trouble with customer protection

🚨 WALMART’S AI PRICE SYSTEM JUST ACTIVATED — DIGITAL PRICES CAN CHANGE IN SECONDS WHILE YOU SHOP AND A CUSTOMER CAUGHT IT ON CAMERA America’s biggest retailers are quietly replacing paper tags with digital screens. Prices are no longer fixed. They can change in seconds. • Grab it at one price • Walk to checkout • It’s already higher This unlocks dynamic pricing inside stores. • Demand spikes → price jumps • Inventory drops → price adjusts • Algorithms decide what you pay in real time Not tomorrow. Not next week. Right now. When prices can change in seconds… are you even buying anything anymore, or just paying whatever the system decides you owe?

@SebAaltonen Hydrogen doesn't need to be produced in the same place it is used. Instead of upgrading every country's grid to support EVs, a few energy rich countries can produce hydrogen and export it.

Driving a hydrogen car today is 2x+ more expensive than ICE (fuel cost), and it pollutes 2x+ more. We don't have green hydrogen yet. Hydrogen production is done currently by burning fossil fuels. Green hydrogen (eletrolysis) requires 3x more energy than charging EV directly from the grid. Which means that electricity price must be close to zero for it to be cost efficient. Finland needs one extra nuclear power plant to reach 100% EV coverage. We would need 3 more nuclear power plants for hydrogen cars. I don't think there's the political will to make that happen anytime soon. Heavy industries are currently using hydrogen produced by fossil fuels. They would be the first ones to buy all the available green hydrogen. Green hydrogen production must far exceed the heavy industry needs before there's any cheap hydrogen remaining for cars. And this would require massive increases in green energy production worldwide (including nuclear plants).

𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲. For years, most of the focus has been on battery EVs. But recently I came across something interesting: NamX’s hydrogen SUV, developed with Pininfarina. Instead of relying on lithium batteries, the vehicle uses removable hydrogen capsules. A few things stand out: → Around 𝟴𝟬𝟬 𝗸𝗺 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 → 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴, in just a few minutes → No dependence on 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘂𝗺 The most interesting idea is the CapX capsule system, designed to make hydrogen refueling simpler and more flexible. Hydrogen mobility has struggled for years mainly because of infrastructure. But innovations like this show how engineers keep trying to rethink the problem. Sometimes progress does not come from replacing the dominant technology. Sometimes it comes from challenging the assumptions behind it. Curious: 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗘𝗩𝘀? #Innovation #Hydrogen #CleanEnergy #FutureOfMobility #Technology

🚨 In 2012, Boeing engineers ran a unique test to improve in-flight Wi‑Fi. They filled a decommissioned plane with bags of potatoes to act like passengers. Potatoes were used because they absorb and reflect Wi‑Fi signals similarly to human bodies. This allowed engineers to see how signals spread in a full cabin. The experiment helped them adjust antennas and access points for better coverage.
