@timsoret Yes you're right he should have done something way more weird and avant garde and it make less immediate what he was trying to say

The simple graphics of a classic RPG add a layer of abstraction. You're meant to intuit, for example, that you're only seeing a slice of the game world; the "real" game world is bigger. Guardia Kingdom obviously has more than the ~50 inhabitants you see. You figure out that battles, where characters spend most of their time standing still, are just a representation of a more dynamic process that's slowed down and abstracted away for the player's benefit. "Remakes" of classic pixel RPGs remove this layer of abstraction; they weaken the player's suspension of disbelief, and the aesthetics of the game suffer. And usually, the aesthetics of the original game were fine. If anything, the "problem" is that by modern standards, the game isn't big or complex enough (too short and repetitive, battle programming is too simple, game mechanics make little sense and/or are too easy to optimize, and in general there aren't enough difficult decisions to make). Unfortunately, this shortcoming of the original 16-bit game usually isn't what gets updated. Square doesn't release a version of Final Fantasy 6 or Chrono Trigger with better battle mechanics, more differentiated characters, etc. They release the game with updated (read: usually worse) graphics and sound and almost no change to the actual gameplay other than maybe the addition of an optional side dungeon.

How have they not made a Chrono Trigger HD2D remake yet? It would look AMAZING.

@YourFiendTina @dodechaedrons Ya it has two moments of unsurpassed subliminity but otherwise is like drifting around in space. I much prefer YWWNW and have listened to it 100 times

@dodechaedrons It’s got 2 REALLY good songs and then some interesting moments sprinkled in between passages that are too sparse or too convoluted to grasp onto. I’ve tried this album many times but idk it’s just not for me

We recently interviewed one of the guys on the Explosive Media Lego team and he said that, surprisingly, their attitude toward the American people has significantly *improved* throughout this conflict, as they have come to recognize that both they and we are subjects of the Epstein class, that Americans voted against war and are appalled by what we're doing. I think the same is true for Americans, and these videos have helped humanize Iranians, in a weird way (considering they are Lego characters and not humans in the videos)

“They said we hate your freedom. But your freedom is our dream. We read your constitution. We know what those words mean.” “We love Americans,” says poignant new Iran Lego video that reaches out to ordinary Americans
