Halter.. a New Zealand startup that puts GPS collars on cows and herds them with vibrations and audio cues.. valued at two billion dollars.. they literally call it a "cowgorithm". the man who builds software that tracks humans across borders.. just decided tracking cows across fields is worth the same investment.. lol! cancer research gets defunded.. clean water startups can't close a seed round.. but a cow GPS backed by the guy who killed Gawker gets a $2B valuation.. VCs don't fund what matters anymore.. they fund what sounds good in a deck with "AI" on the cover slide..

i've been critical of ethereum a lot recently, but i will say this it's the only major chain i can think of right now whose leaders are publicly focused on their ecosystem, and not to propagandistic political punditry the bar is so low

@DavidAriew Hopefully it does level out and we don't end up in a subscription based compute dystopia - Agree on it being interesting - sad that they could've showcased other visual styles or how game devs could use this to optimize their games to require less compute if possible

Agreed that the most important aspect is gameplay itself but this is one of the biggest advancements I’ve seen in rendering tech in a decade imo. The resources aspect is an issue, agreed, due to the gold rush mania of AI, but I’m guessing this will level out at some point once we’re out of this phase.

Everyone is so mad about this but it looks like an upgrade to my eyes. Video game characters look like ass on the whole and this does improve the photorealism, full stop. This wasn’t meant to be a stylistic game. It was trying to be photoreal and ran into limitations. To me this is actual utility for AI, similar to what Magnific can do to add micro details and that extra layer of polish to low res textures. Yes, the animation is still janky and to a degree it’s like putting makeup on a pig, but these are the steps to visual improvement and I’m sure that’s next. As someone who has worked in the 3D industry for over 15 years, I also feel that the tools have plateaued, and what I have access to today isn’t significantly better than what it was a decade ago. This feels like the jump from CPU rendering to GPU rendering and all I’m seeing is hate, why??

Strange that NVIDIA is even wasting time creating AI slop overlays (that no one asked for) seeing as they are the driving force behind pricing gamers out of the hobby.
