In March 1510, the Goringhaiqua crushed a Portuguese raiding party at the Battle of Salt River. They killed ~65 invaders, including Viceroy Francisco de Almeida, who died from a spear to the throat. It was a massive victory that delayed colonization for over a century

Private sector 'led' growth will lead to ever greater levels of inequality in South Africa - which is already unsustainable. Ironically, the largest owners of capital will be the first to complain when the rule of law ultimately fails.

This is such an unserious argument. Essentially arguing for a pre-94 economic status quo. The subtext here is that the traditional ruling class is the only one with the acumen to drive growth. We need debate, not this type of misplaced nostalgia passing itself off as argument

President Ramaphosa needs the courage to stop banging on about how swapping white ownership for black is the miracle cure for the economy, writes @Bruceps timeslive.co.za/opinion/2026-0…

Clement is a capable journalist. It would be strange for him not to release evidence of political pressure from the ANC involved in the canning of his show. Perhaps it’s still coming

If people want a different, less avaricious, less extractive form of BEE, then they should keep going and advocate for a different less avaricious, less extractive form of capitalism. There isn’t a single BEE critique that cant be extrapolated to incl the whole system

The sheer colonial chutzpah of being on these shores for a mere two weeks and loudly proclaiming 'I don't care what your courts say!' as you continue to lecture us about a history you make no effort to learn or understand is baffling.

South Africa can be a bewildering place. It demands humility and the ability to pace yourself. The natives here can be rowdy

The “asks” [from the US] are for South Africa to: 1. rethink the Expropriation Act and broad-based black economic empowerment; 2. condemn the Kill the Boer chant; 3. prioritise farm murders to protect white farmers; and be non-aligned We're dealing with unseruious interlocutors

The US is running out of patience with the South African government, which has not addressed five demands the superpower made to smooth relations between the two countries. ebx.sh/Nyi9RV
