The #SupremeCourt on Monday heard its suo motu case concerning the death of 33-year-old #TwishaSharma, with Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informing the bench that accused and former judicial officer Giribala Singh was “constantly maligning” the deceased in media interviews while allegedly refusing to cooperate with investigators. The matter was heard by a bench led by #CJISuryaKant along with Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul Pancholi. During the hearing, SG Mehta told the Court that Twisha Sharma was “living in hell” at her matrimonial home and remarked that for parents, “it is better to have a divorced daughter than a dead one.” The bench also noted concerns surrounding the investigation, media narratives, and public statements being made by parties connected to the case, while stressing the need for a fair and impartial probe. The case, which has sparked nationwide outrage, pertains to the death of Twisha Sharma at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. FIRs have been registered under provisions relating to dowry death and cruelty under the #BharatiyaNyayaSanhita and the #DowryProhibitionAct.
