Prominent Pune activist Vinita Deshmukh has strongly objected to the naming of a newly constructed cancer hospital in Baner after Yashwantrao Bhimale, father of BJP corporator Shrinath Bhimale. In a video statement, Deshmukh urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to remove the current signboard and officially rename the facility as “Baner Cancer Hospital” before its inauguration scheduled on May 16. Deshmukh questioned the connection of the Bhimale family to the Baner area and criticised what she described as the growing trend of naming public infrastructure after politicians or their relatives despite being funded through taxpayers’ money.
