Here are my three takeaways from tonight’s 3-2 Montreal Canadiens win over the Ottawa Senators, brought to you by Snap Bar Sportif in Rigaud.
1 – Habs find a way
The Canadiens found a way to win, again. It’s not always pretty, but Montreal continues to grind out victories.
Yes, there are plenty of areas where the team can improve. They turned the puck over too often, got pushed around physically, and spent far too much time hemmed in their own zone. And they still won.
You can say it’s not sustainable all you want, but they’ve been doing it for 64 games now. There’s an old saying that good teams find ways to win games they probably don’t deserve to win and right now, the Canadiens are proving they’re a good team.
2 – Another game of gaffes for Carrier
Alexandre Carrier has struggled for most of the season and nobody really wants to talk about it. He was a big acquisition last year and played a major role in helping the Canadiens reach the playoffs but so did Patrik Laine.
Unfortunately, Carrier seems to get blown up by a big hit almost every game, and a lot of that comes from holding onto the puck too long. When he tries to speed up his decision-making, it often leads to turnovers, like the one that resulted in Ottawa’s first goal tonight.
Carrier remains one of Martin St. Louis’ most trusted players, but that trust should probably be reconsidered. Other players haven’t played nearly as poorly and have still been scratched, so why not Carrier? The fact that he shoots right certainly plays a role, which is why David Reinbacher can’t arrive soon enough.
And the penalty kill shouldn’t be the reason he stays in the lineup, Montreal’s PK has been awful. If the Canadiens make the playoffs, it’s hard to imagine Carrier holding up for an entire series playing like this.
3 – Fowler was terrific
Starting Jakub Dobes on back-to-back nights didn’t make much sense and wouldn’t have put him in the best position to succeed. Starting Sam Montembeault also felt risky, considering his recent struggles and the fact that Montreal can’t afford to give away points this late in the season.
Fowler stepped in and delivered. He was solid throughout the night and played with the poise and calmness that’s quickly becoming his trademark. Some of his best work came in the third period with the game on the line, and it’s safe to say the Canadiens don’t win this game without his performance.
It’s hard to understand how far Montembeault’s game has fallen since this time last year, but his time this season may have run out. The big question now is how Montreal plans to use Fowler moving forward. Playing him once a week as Dobes’ backup wouldn’t make much sense, especially with Dobes earning the net lately.
For now, it looks like the Canadiens will just take it one game at a time.

@BobWeeksTSN Hey @BobWeeksTSN . Any chance the tinker on TSN can shoe the correct tee time for players. This morning it had players teeing of at 6:25 pm est. This has been going on for a couple of seasons.

@Bell_Support . Looks like our cell phone was hacked. 4 calls made to 4 different numbers at the same time. Called support and they were zero help. Only asked the same question 3 times. No answers when we asked who pays for long distance calls that we don't make.

Four Old Men. Two Wheelchairs. One Beach. Alan Alda’s 90th Birthday
January 28, 2026.
Alan Alda turned 90.
His family planned a safe celebration at home.
Cake. Balloons. Grandkids.
Alan said no.
“I don’t want a party,” he said.
His daughter frowned.
“Dad… you’re turning ninety. This is a big deal.”
“I know,” Alan said.
“But I don’t want to celebrate here.”
“Then where?”
Alan didn’t hesitate.
“I want to go to the beach.”
The room went still.
“The beach?”
“Dad, you’re in a wheelchair.”
“You can barely stand.”
Alan smiled.
That smile.
The Hawkeye Pierce smile — the one that always meant something stubborn was coming.
“So?”
By that afternoon, he had already decided who was coming.
“The four of us,” he said.
“The last four.”
Gary Burghoff.
Jamie Farr.
Mike Farrell.
And himself.
The final survivors of the 4077th.
“No cameras. No interviews. No speeches,” Alan said.
“Just us.”
The phone calls began.
Gary answered first.
“Happy birthday, old man! Ninety!”
“Thanks. I need you to drive.”
“Drive where?”
“To the beach.”
A pause.
“Alan… you’re in a wheelchair.”
“So are facts. They don’t stop me either.”
Gary laughed.
That Radar laugh Alan had known for over fifty years.
“Fine. But I’m not pushing you through sand.”
“I’ll crawl if I have to.”
“You’re insane.”
“I’m Hawkeye. Same thing.”
Jamie Farr was next.
“The beach?” Jamie said.
“I’m ninety-one and in a wheelchair.”
“Then we’ll have two wheelchairs at the beach.”
“Like a parade?”
“Like a victory lap.”
Jamie laughed until his voice cracked.
“You haven’t changed since 1972.”
“And you’re still Klinger.”
“Fine. I’m in.”
Mike Farrell sighed the moment he answered.
“Let me guess,” he said.
“You want me to push your wheelchair.”
“Yes.”
“I’m eighty-six. I use a cane.”
“BJ Hunnicutt once saved a man with dental floss,” Alan said.
“You’ll manage.”
Long pause.
“…Fine.”
January 28. 6:00 a.m.
Gary arrived in a rented van.
Two wheelchair spaces.
He was wearing a Hawaiian shirt.
At Alan’s house, his daughter hovered.
“Dad, are you sure?”
“I’ve never been more sure of anything.”
“What if something happens?”
“Something is always about to happen at ninety,” Alan said.
“Might as well happen at the beach.”
Jamie was waiting outside his house.
Wheelchair. Sunglasses.
Hawaiian shirt.
“You coordinated outfits?” Gary asked.
“It’s tradition,” Jamie said.
“The 4077th always matched.”
Mike showed up next.
Also in a Hawaiian shirt.
Four old men.
One van.
Heading west.
On the drive, memories filled the air.
Harry driving too fast.
Larry bringing his own wine.
Radar making everyone cry.
Klinger never sleeping.
When the MASH* theme song came on, no one spoke.
After it ended, Alan said quietly,
“That song used to annoy me.”
“Now?”
“Now it just reminds me how lucky we were.”
At Malibu, reality hit.
Wheelchairs don’t work on sand.
Jamie grumbled.
Mike rubbed his back.
Alan stared at the ocean.
Gary disappeared.
Fifteen minutes later, he returned with two lifeguards and two beach wheelchairs.
One lifeguard whispered,
“My grandmother watched MASH* every night.”
It took time.
Transfers were slow.
Hands trembled.
Bones protested.
But they made it.
To the water.
Alan closed his eyes.
The sound of waves.
Salt in the air.
Sun on his face.
“I forgot what this felt like,” he said.
They talked about the ones who weren’t there.
McLean.
Wayne.
Larry.
Harry.
Bill.
David.
Loretta.
Jamie finally broke the silence.
“Let’s race.”
Two wheelchairs.
Two pushers.
One rock.
They raced.
They tied.
People on the beach stared.
A teenager asked, “What are those old guys doing?”
His mother said, “Living.”
As the sun set, Alan spoke.
“This might be the last time.”
No one argued.
“That’s why it matters,” he said.
“Because we know.”
He made a wish.
“One more year.”
“One more adventure.”
“Korea. Together.”
They promised.

Here are my three takeaways from tonight’s 4-1 Montreal Canadiens win over the Calgary Flames, brought to you by Snap Bar Sportif in Rigaud.
*RT and engage*
1. Taking care of business
This game had “trap game” written all over it. A struggling Flames team came into the Bell Centre as the Canadiens returned home from their longest road trip of the season, with a division rival — and the two-time defending champions — waiting on the schedule tomorrow. It had all the ingredients for a letdown.
Instead, Montreal did exactly what good teams are supposed to do: they handled an opponent they should beat. Playing down to their competition has been a recurring theme at times this season, most recently Saturday against the St. Louis Blues, but that wasn’t the case here. The Canadiens are clearly the better team, and they played like it.
2. Look at that goal total
Last season, Lane Hutson proved he was the best rookie in the league. This year, he’s proving he’s one of the best defensemen in the NHL.
One area Hutson focused on this offseason was his shot and his ability to score, and the results are starting to show. Don’t look now, but he’s up to eight goals on the season and is on pace for roughly 15 — outstanding numbers for a second-year defenseman. Importantly, the added scoring hasn’t come at the expense of his playmaking. If anything, it’s made him a more complete player.
Hutson’s work ethic is second to none, and given how much time he puts into his craft, it’s hard not to believe there’s still another level coming. It’s already fun to think about what he’ll choose to focus on this coming offseason.
3. When Texier is on, he’s on
Alexandre Texier has had a mixed bag of results while skating on the top line. In last week’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes, he was among Montreal’s best forwards, flashing some creativity and making a few really slick passes. Outside of games like that, however, the production hasn’t always been there.
Against Calgary, this was one of those nights where everything clicked. Texier recorded three points, including a goal, and was a legitimate factor in the outcome. That said, he’s unlikely to remain a full-time option on the top line unless he can bring more consistency to his game. The talent is there — now it’s about sustaining it.

@IWeatherON Fluffy snow fall in Kitchener. As of now not as intense as earlier squalls
English

#ONStorm #ONwx Wow! Check out the incredible fetch on these squalls off Lake Huron this evening.
The more southern squall is stretching all the way through Kitchener into Hamilton and even reaching the Niagara region.
Meanwhile, the northern squall is cutting right through downtown Toronto right now, which is definitely not something you see every day.
While the most extreme snowfall accumulation will stay locked into the snowbelt regions near Lake Huron, we could still see a few hours of heavy snow push through Kitchener and across parts of the Golden Horseshoe. Be extra cautious out there as sudden whiteouts will be possible.
Overnight, we expect the northern squall to gradually become the dominant feature as it locks in over the Grey Bruce region. At times, it could also stretch into parts of the Northern GTA.
What are you experiencing out there? 👀❄️
