I feel like Golang is a cruel joke. No unions, no enums, no generics, and the concurrency primitives don't even give the guarantees that everyone assumes. Its capitalization/naming rules also force you to introduce field and method naming drift compared to every other language. Why do people use it outside of megacorps?

@progrium simplest depends on which axis you measure, fewest lines and fewest deps almost never agree

theres always room for another more or less complex implementation. there will eventually only be one simplest implementation.

i mean, imagine every executable npm package included a copy of nodejs with it, why would that be a good idea?

is it a controversial take that maybe every npm package becoming a 120 megabyte bundle with bun binary runtime inlined is a terrible idea?

Makes you wonder what's unique about the JavaScript ecosystem that it's getting exploited so much.

I hope we see an explosion of personal infrastructure, software, and hardware over the next decade. Toolmaking is very rare: chimps, crows, and a few others. Language with symbolic manipulation is even rarer. Combined, it’s just us. Jigs, stencils, scratchpads, explorable explanations, pico clouds, and home labs… Technology closer to the interests of people than corporations.

I don't get why people keep reinventing electron. The problem with electron is JavaScript, not the container. JavaScript is an absolute pig when it comes to memory and CPU. I would love for someone to really fix this for desktop apps.

lets start a movement where you avoid state complexity by avoiding a database as much as possible. we can call it baseless software

good question! two years ago it was 64mb for everything and it did a lot less. today it is: - 2.7mb for the core wasm - 1.4mb for vm support (optional) - 2.2mb for minimal linux kernel (optional) - 3.6mb for alpine (optional, user defined) - 20mb for vscode assets (optional) so now 2.7mb minimally and at least 30mb for everything now but core still has little bit of room to shave more off and others too with tradeoffs
