My Protestant orthodoxy is summarized as: Protestant: Sola Scriptura is the most reliable way to encounter the fullness of God Orthodoxy: To take God seriously. To come before Him in worship with awe. To reject a casual familiarity of God. God is near — and He is majestic

@MattTestifies As I’ve said, the whole thing — literally the entire thing — boils down to “because Joseph smith said so”

Joseph Smith didn’t give me faith in Christ. He helped me understand how much Christ was still doing.

Well, after 6 years of serving, I was released today from my calling as a Deacons Quorum Advisor. It’s been an incredibly fulfilling and rewarding calling. This is the Lords restored Church and it is true

If Adam-God is false, doesn’t President Kimball owe us an explanation of why it’s false? Anyone can just say something isn’t true. And what keeps another president from saying President Kimball was wrong? And it changes quite a bit. If Adam is God…you have to radically reinterpret the scriptures as well as admit that the fundamentalists rather than the last 5-6 prophets were right after all…and if presidents can get God wrong, what else are they getting wrong? And why trust them? If they have direct access to God, shouldn’t they be able to tell us who and what he is? Just asking.

I don't really care that Brigham Young thought Adam might be God, and I also don't really care that President Kimball denounced it. Doesn't really change anything.

@protestantjake @jaredadairbell Ah, sorry. I thought I was having a conversation with a serious person. My bad. "Total refutation" is not something any serious person would say about any complex institution - religious or otherwise. Your appeal to misinformation makes more sense now.

I think she just confessed that Joseph Smith was a literary genius, luckiest guesser, or an actual servant of God.

@protestantjake @RobertJFluegel @jaredadairbell You talk as is "Mormons" were a homogenous category. Many people of many different traditions do this, and many people in those same traditions don't. It's the intellectually honest way to do things, regardless of who does or does not do it.

@protestantjake @jaredadairbell "Refute the religion"? I don't think any serious person would put it that way. There are plenty of grounds to criticize LDS theology, practice, etc., just as there are plenty of grounds to criticize any religious tradition. Mormons are not exempt from that.

@protestantjake @RobertJFluegel @jaredadairbell There's no such thing as veracity of a scholars - Mormon or otherwise. There's veracity of evidence and reasoning. Just because a scholar said it doesn't mean anything - that's just an appeal to authority. We can evaluate empirical evidence independent of who supplied it.

@protestantjake @jaredadairbell The argument was the manuscript, not the scholars. I cited non-LDS folks only to preempt 'well of course Mormons say that'. There's plenty of grounds for criticising Mormonism. I'm just saying you don't have to resort to misinformation to do so.

@protestantjake @jaredadairbell Even non-LDS scholars reject that. Spalding's manuscript was rediscovered in 1884 and bears essentially no resemblance to the Book of Mormon — different style, names, plot, etc. Anyone can read it. You can easily critique Mormonism without resorting to misinformation.

@KelseaJ112 @protestantjake @realDailyWire The anti-Mormons on X literally have nothing better to do The daily wire and Hollywood, however, our capitalizing on the word Mormon because it sells The daily wire didn’t do this because they are concerned about the theology They did it because anti-Mormon crap sells

I'm sorry to hear that the @realDailyWire is openly forfeiting their conservative lds audience. I had a lot of hopes for you guys. While it seems that every conservative commentator is having their go at us. The left already hated us, now we are surrounded by haters.

@RandomLDS But don’t forget you have to asterisk this claim with “because Joseph smith said so” “I’ll take living prophets and personal revelation over some dead dude any day… because Joseph smith said so”

The rapture will be seen as a mass alien abduction event, btw. This is why people still won’t believe in Him after it happens.
