One Nation...Under God

The Supreme Court has been chipping away at our elections for years. It is clearly carrying out Donald Trump’s will with this decision. New York has always led the fight for voting rights and we’ll lead again. I’m working with the Legislature to change New York’s redistricting process so we can fight back against Washington’s attempts to rig our democracy.

Had a real conversation today… A man told me: “Black people just lost their ability to vote.” I asked him one question… Why only Black people? Why not Asians… Indians… Germans… Italians? He pivoted… Said the Supreme Court “won’t give Black people special circumstances anymore.” So I asked him plainly… You’re saying Black Americans need permanent federal oversight to vote? Indefinitely? Because without it… what… they can’t participate? He had no answer. Let’s deal in facts… The 15th Amendment already guarantees the right to vote regardless of race. That protection never went away. What changed is this… The Court questioned whether decades-old emergency provisions should continue without current, measurable evidence. That’s a constitutional question… not racial suppression. If your argument is that one group needs a permanent exception to the standard applied to every other American… You better be able to explain why. Because if you can’t… You’re not defending rights. You’re defending dependency. #SilentMajoritySpeaks #AStoneGroove

🚨BREAKING: In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court guts a key tool that has been used to challenge racially discriminatory voting practices for fifty years. Combined with one of the Court’s 2019 rulings, today’s decision effectively declares all gerrymandering constitutional. democracydocket.com/news-alerts/sc…

In 4 years I have lost: - my right to an abortion - my ability to obtain financial aid to pay for a degree - my right to clean air and water - my right to safe food free of forever chemicals - my right to be represented in Congress as a taxpaying citizen through the VRA I hate this country.

Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach. The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.

Right now, I'm BLOCKING a Republican bill to build Donald Trump's ballroom. Instead of rubber-stamping Trump’s gold-encrusted ballroom, Congress must lower costs for American families. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…

Lee Zeldin SCORCHES Democrat Rosa DeLauro when she loses it over the EPA's budget proposal, claiming it "reads like a climate change denier's manifesto" and screeches that climate change is "flooding our streets" and "poisoning our air": Zeldin: "Following the law...Where does it say anything about fighting global climate change? Loper Bright, Supreme Court case. You familiar with it?" DeLauro: "N-, no, maybe others are. I'm not." Zeldin: "But that's really important. As a member of Congress, Loper Bright says that we, as an agency, don't have the authority to get creative if Section 202 of the Clean Air Act-" DeLauro: "No, no...YOU DO NOT HAVE A RIGHT TO SAY CLIMATE CHANGE DOES NOT EXIST; THAT IT'S A HOAX! And that is where this administration is coming from!" Zeldin: "I understand you're upset that you don't know what Loper Bright is. Do you know what the Major Policies Doctrine is?" DeLauro: "I'm upset because...Lemme just say this to you!" Zeldin: "You're a member of Congress; you should know...You're very defensive about not knowing the two biggest landmark Supreme Court cases of the last year with regards to your question..." DeLauro: "You're here because you need money from us! SO HALT FOR THE SECOND AND WAIT FOR THE QUESTIONS AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS!" Zeldin: "Well, I answered your question and you didn't like my answer because you don't know what Loper Bright is, because you don't know the Major Policies Doctrine is. You're asking me about Section 202 of the Clean Air Act, and you don't read it. You don't know what it says...I actually read the law. I do my homework. You're just somebody who likes to have the microphone on. You know what I have to do? I read the law; I read the Supreme Court cases...You care about science; now you're threatening to defund it?" Brilliant job, EPA Administrator! 👏

America will not be lectured about civility by far right extremists in Congress. Particularly those who provide aid and comfort to hundreds of violent rioters who brutally beat police officers on January 6. There will be ample time to vigorously debate the issues of the day. Now is a time to unify.
