As Chair of the City’s Budget Committee, my responsibility is to protect the stability of our entire budget. The City preliminarily approved a 7% pay increase for the Police Department last year, which is more than many other departments. The Police Board is demanding Rams settlement funds, and the city's emergency reserves. This demand is simply not sustainable. The Police Board's demand puts the city’s broader financial health at risk and ignores the reality that every department must operate within our city's fiscal limits. I support the Mayor’s and President's lawsuit because it joins the chorus of lawsuits that seek to preserve a balanced, responsible budget for the entire city.
