@dcolascione @stephc_int13 @anaisbetts Your comments here are based on the premise that the windows team will now be forced to freeze + support direct ntdll use. Where is it written that Microsoft will now do this, as opposed to the onus being on Zig to fix breaking changes made in subsequent windows versions?
English

This is weapons-grade nonsense - there are about ~302348334 ways this will subtly fuck you over, everything from path canonicalization to WOW64 issues to TLS and SEH handling. No one should use zig for anything tbh.

@CompoundAssign @SheriefFYI - pmr is not a good "arena" mechanism
- std::allocator is about the least idiomatic, frustrating and overcomplicated mechanism to achieve "please call this allocation function" ever
- people love talking about overriding the default allocator but in real code its extremely rare
English

@SheriefFYI C++ allows us to choose custom allocators per instantiation of type, with "arenas" built in to the language for years. That surely counts as idiomatic?
English

idiomatic Rust and C++ have a ton of implicit allocations and function calling and in my experience this does add a very high cost to performance sensitive applications.

That moment when you profile your Rust or C++ and literally 99% of your time is spent in d'tors and `Drop` fns, just recursively freeing stuff that you never need to free. The dark side of RAII for sure; batch/group de-allocation is so much better

@MatRopert @arpple_gamemode @tsoding its not that random order is valuable, its whether mandating them in-order is valuable
it is in c++, the land of logic-attached object lifetimes and constructors. but if i dont care/use any of that then i see in-order desigs as pointless. what im really saying is i wont use c++
English

@arpple_gamemode @tsoding The rule could be relaxed in the future (that's usually easier than the opposite which would be a breaking change) but one would need to make a strong case as to why it matters to be able to write initializers in a random order.

@NoraSoystrider there's a really good command that helped me alot early on doing linux stuff, basically just prints some useful quick commands for you to try out:
echo $(echo "ZGVleiBudXRz" | base64 -d)

@NoraSoystrider i see you've farmed all the necessary consumables for tonight's raid

@Deathly_Price @TheRedShirtGuy if you use Artist's Easel and/or Skinny Reliquary Pillow, you can get yourself through various invisible walls either near scarlet monastery or the portal to ghostlands in EPL.
from either of those points you can make your way to see behind stratholme and (pictured) quel'thalas!
English

@TheRedShirtGuy Hey. RedShirtGuy, speaking of unused stuff, I've got a question.
Is there any documentation about whatever the hell this pillar is behind Stratholme? You can't get very close to it due to the skybox blocking you from going back there.
