Newly activated or bolstered defences will be more powerful. Lowered emotional reactivity will be the result, but that's not a win, obviously! When an emotion is TRULY processed, you don't have to keep practising fake 'letting go'. Done properly, it's once-and-done-forever.

The ego is extremely sophisticated and rapid in the way it perfroms these workarounds, and it fools 'therapists' all the time. It will make things worse whilst giving the appearance of helping.

Sitting with painful emotions and accepting them. Good idea? No. Here's what actually happens. The thing trying to do the accepting is the ego. What else would be doing it? Pure consciousness/beingness? No - you don't have access to that. 1/ff

I do quite a good Jordan Peterson impression. You have to really move your hands into the space between yourself and the listener, and then it's all about the plaintive tone "well, you knaw... I mean...what are you going to do man? This is not easy. And I tell people that".

@DudeWhoInvests When the world goes robotic, we'll find out how many professions are actually needed. Farming, engineering & construction, transport - yes. Most other jobs....mmm, not really.

@RCarhartHarris In his teaching, consciousness is the first manifestation, not the fundamental reality. It matches with the Bible - "Let there be light". This is the first creation. Light can be equated with consciousness, as in 'the light of consciousness'. Same thing.

@RCarhartHarris Nisargadatta's writing explains: Consciousness *is* the I am - I am consciousness. All good - makes sense. If this was the fundamental reality then yes, solipsism could be the result. However, what Nisargadatta refers to as Awareness (God) lies beyond consciousness.

Reading this and not yet done but wondering: why are psychoanalysts so shy of psychedelic phenomenology? The gap they don’t fill with psychology gets filled with metaphysical speculation.

@RCarhartHarris But what if the Idealists are correct and there is no real, external world? If they're correct, then what we call 'anchored' (grounded/realistic) might just be a sticky, habituated positioning of consciousness. Like Castaneda's 'Assemblage point'. Move it → reality changes.

@pt___ In a sense, everything is a projection, but only in a sense. Some projections have better anchorage to the external world than others.

@RCarhartHarris People are saying they're not real, but are *we* real? Most of the wisdom traditions state that the human ego/self is illusory. If we aren't fundamentally real, what authority do we have to label other beings as unreal? I suspect DMT entities are as real and unreal as we are!

@RCarhartHarris Just as waking life feels more veracious than dreams, DMT feels more veracious than waking life. That’s why users automatically grant the beings there greater ontological weight - treating them as literally real rather than archetypes or projections. Totally expected and normal

@Andercot StarTalk channel has 5.7M subscribers, yet it's by far the worst podcast I've seen. All 3 of them are ignorant, and they're rude to their guests. Guffawing at their own dumb jokes accounts for a good proportion of each interview.

I think Neil de Grasse Tyson just plain sucks. He has none of the depth of Carl Sagan, none of the humility Hawking, nor scientific accomplishments. He is a gotcha sound-byte narcissist, an absolute dead weight to society, he just fucking sucks
