Quick overview of @SuiNetwork Hashi announced this week. Hashi is a decentralized protocol (often described as a "primitive" or foundational building block) built on the Sui blockchain network. It enables native #Bitcoin ($BTC) to be used as collateral in decentralized finance (DeFi) applications primarily for lending, borrowing, earning yield, and other financial products without requiring wrapped BTC (like WBTC), centralized custody, or bridging the asset off the Bitcoin chain. How It Works Native BTC stays on Bitcoin: Your Bitcoin never leaves the Bitcoin network. Instead, Hashi uses cryptographic mechanisms (including threshold cryptography/MPC signing and verification between Bitcoin and Sui) to prove ownership and make it "programmable" as collateral on Sui via smart contracts. No intermediaries or wrappers: This reduces trust assumptions, eliminates custodial risks from third parties, and allows automated, on-chain enforcement for things like loans, liquidations, and risk management. Focus on BTC-backed lending: Users can deposit BTC to generate a unique address, then borrow stablecoins or access other DeFi services against it. Institutions can provide liquidity, and it's designed for both retail and large-scale institutional participation. It leverages Sui's high-performance blockchain (fast finality, low fees, Move programming language for secure smart contracts) to make this efficient and scalable. Hashi was officially announced and launched on Sui's devnet (developer/test network) around March 19, by the Sui Foundation and Mysten Labs. Full mainnet launch is planned for later in the year.
