So Jensen saying it had creative control was in fact an AI inference filter with no control.
Intensity and colour grading/masking is not control.
It's a post process gen AI filter, the engine programmers are probably not happy this goes against all conventions to do with PBR.

Daniel got important clarifications from NVIDIA. TLDR: the "DLSS5 skeptical" were right about *everything*. 1⃣ It's a 2D AI Filter. Input is only color buffer & motion vectors. The model doesn't see geometry, lights, PBR properties, normals, anything🧵 youtu.be/D0EM1vKt36s

@TechPowerUp Its probably just some communicator who have been breathing the hallucinogenic phosphor and ramble things to its source.
English

@HUMINT_GO @opinali I think your and mine subjective response will hit different once we have our hands on this. It’s looking really interesting tbh. I already see some hints at where this is going by playing around with DLSS 4.5 in Arc Raiders and seeing the realism of that.

@LinkToThis @MisterSpace3 And a 5090 is worth around 3000 Voodoo2-cards working together. Similarly, the AI which DLSS downscales from was trained on thousands of cards more powerful than the 5090 for those specific tasks. Now it ends up to being adapted to the 50-gen GPU’s for PC’s.
English

@MisterSpace3 These are not games
This is a new AI tech that requires the 5090s to work.
Are you dumb?
English

"#DLSS5 is shit! It requires 2x5090s to run!"
In general, games are first shown/made/optimized on devkits, which are significantly more powerful than your console or your average pc that run final product.
Do you have a nervous breakdown when a game under development is shown?
English

@brent_bjerke @opinali It is a pattern recognition just as LLM’s and has been trained in a similar way but on images and high resolution 3D-light renderings instead, then delivers a lower resolution prediction (super sample) through looking at the 2D, no need for 3D when it recognizes what it looks at.
English

@HUMINT_GO @opinali I doesn’t need 3D. The 2D register which is saved post training knows from its training (which will improve many times over just as Grok with LLM’s) how 3D lightning looks like and responds. Just as you recognize it’ll recognize.
English

@foxygames_uk This is a fake image and not even close to representing what dlss 5 would look like.
And if this image was real, congrats the two characters don't even look alike. Why even have art direction and game studios at this point.
Just generate everything from scratch

I think what Nvidia is doing with its DLSS 5 Neural Rendering Technology is THE Next Level.
Hate and death threat me. IDGAF.

DLSS 5 is trained with a “teacher-student” system on real game engines. They render perfect “teacher” frames using full path-tracing + 64× supersampling (true 3D lighting/physics). The model learns from millions of these paired with the low-res render + motion vectors. At runtime it only sees the 2D image, but applies the real 3D knowledge it gained during training. Not just blind 2D guessing — it’s learned from actual ground-truth 3D data.
English

@ptlemic @geysergod_ @DavidFrost95 @opinali Uh, well, information is lost in the translation from 3D to 2D. To edit a 2D scene while keeping it looking authentic to that translation you are necessarily implying new information. If you don't know the ground truth, you will suggest information that doesn't belong.
English

@geysergod_ @DavidFrost95 @Chettlar @opinali But the 3D data in a game engine still happens on a 2D monitor. Why wouldn't a pattern recognition engine perfectly succeed with rendering 3D images by looking solely at 2D images?
English

@DavidFrost95 @Chettlar @opinali We are discussing game engines here. Of course by “geometry” we mean the actual 3D data that the engine uses, not the AI’s guesswork.
English

We spoke to multiple game devs and all of them hate DLSS 5: "What the fuck, Nvidia?!"
One person currently attending college and studying game development, told Kotaku that after seeing DLSS 5, "it feels like there is no future for me." kotaku.com/we-spoke-to-ga…

You know who hates AI the most? Unhinged leftist artists.
Do you know which political side makes the most death threats and carries them out?
There’s a connection.

🚨 Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter says the team received death threats over their DLSS 5 coverage “We’ve received death threats… this is completely unacceptable. No one should face threats for doing their job or sharing tech.”
English

@Degen_Poster @foxygames_uk It kinda speaks volumes that you have to downgrade the original to ps1 graphics to shill the ai version...

My close friend and colleague Steve Sweeney @SweeneySteve is nearly killed by an Israeli strike in Lebanon.
Their vehicles are clearly marked as Press. They wear Press markings.
He's alive. What more can we say.
