Trump: "Ukraine, militarily, they're defeated. You wouldn't know that by reading the fake news."

The White House seems to be landing on this explanation. Here is @SecRubio “in simple English”

New: See the memo Bari Weiss sent to some 60 Minutes staff on Sunday:

So here are my thoughts: I think the administration should get to/have to comment on all of this. High ranking, on the record. They have a side because it’s their policy. I also think a more fulsome description of who the impacted deportees really are would be useful. Bari’s editorial notes are common sense and reflect basic journalistic ethics. As for the policy, I think the administration needs to answer for it. I think there were abuses, some bad. Some process was due, especially if we were going to ship people off to foreign hell hole prisons. The least we could do is work hard enough not to make major mistakes. But I’m also not opposed to shipping hardened illegal gang bangers to a place like CECOT. Our government projected the opposite of deterrence for four years. This is needed, brutal, hard-nosed deterrence. Within certain safeguards (and I think guardrails were insufficient in some of these cases), I support it.
