I heard several podcasts devoted exclusively to Dowman this week and heard him repeatedly called the next Messi. Surely that makes him a lock.

@UtdTait I am somewhat happy about the result because it should cool the "we must appoint Carrick right now" talk. I am not opposed to hiring him, but I want to see what happens after the bounce wears off and he has to manage through a bad patch before I am ready to appoint him.

Nice to equalise at the end, not gonna go nuts about the result. Was bound to happen at some stage, we didn't suddenly become a great team overnight. Signs were there against Fulham in particular. Four wins and a draw from the last five, take it and move on

@UtdTait If we are going to play that high, should we start working in Lennny Yoro rather than Maguire? Harry simply cannot cover that much open space. I know Lenny has made some mistakes, but wouldn’t it be better to let him take some lumps when we aren’t in Europe?

@ptonlaw My annoying answer is that it's both. I think before the game we'd all have taken a tight 1 goal win. Fulham are a good team that we've struggled against before. In the end, the way we handled the last 10 mins was awful which took the shine off

@CathyYoung63 @conor64 My problem with the focus on what crimes the men committed is either it’s okay to knowingly send human beings to be tortured in a foreign gulag or it’s not. No matter what these men did or didn’t do, the America I believe in doesn’t send people to be tortured.

@conor64 3. She says there was a mention of only 8 people being convicted of violent crimes, but no mention of pending charges. But the segment said (1) 70 people had pending charges; (2) not clear how many were for immigration offenses only, BECAUSE administration rushed to deport them.

1. The admin was reportedly asked for comment and declined. 2. The abuses are incredibly well documented - there wasn't just not enough process, there was literally none. 3. If people commit crimes, put them on trial; renditioning them to torture is a human rights abuse.

So here are my thoughts: I think the administration should get to/have to comment on all of this. High ranking, on the record. They have a side because it’s their policy. I also think a more fulsome description of who the impacted deportees really are would be useful. Bari’s editorial notes are common sense and reflect basic journalistic ethics. As for the policy, I think the administration needs to answer for it. I think there were abuses, some bad. Some process was due, especially if we were going to ship people off to foreign hell hole prisons. The least we could do is work hard enough not to make major mistakes. But I’m also not opposed to shipping hardened illegal gang bangers to a place like CECOT. Our government projected the opposite of deterrence for four years. This is needed, brutal, hard-nosed deterrence. Within certain safeguards (and I think guardrails were insufficient in some of these cases), I support it.

Our initial press has got so much better this season but we're still so shaky defensively once a team has us defending in our own half. Villa have only had about five real attacks all game and every time they've ended up in a decent shooting position

This game has been a perfect summation of our last few months, play pretty decently but struggle to properly break a defence down, concede cheap goals after we can't create any consistent chances. Same thing against West Ham, Bournemouth, 1st half v Wolves, Forest
