Some of us inside the Indo-Canadian community have been warning about this for years. But we get beaten up by Khalistanis and the larger Canadian political class ignores us and calls us Indian agents. The fact is that it is hard for the average Canadian to distinguish between a Sikh religious symbol and a Khalistani flag because the Khalistanis strategically and purposely created this confusion. They wanted to show that they speak for the Sikhs. I keep warning the moderate Sikh that your silence means someone or the other will take that space as nature abhors vaccum. We need to educate the average Canadian about the subtle differences and at the same time we need to make sure the average Canadian becomes our ally in this fight against Khalistani extremism.
