12 years ago, I started building a game engine from scratch.
Today, Spartan just passed 3,000 stars on GitHub ⭐️
I didn't build it for people to use. I built it to learn, create a portfolio, get a job, and eventually make a cutting edge racing game and do my own thing.
Now I'm 33, turned my life around, and I'm finally able to focus on it, and the passion is stronger than ever.

After my performance optimisations I hit a wall of memory. I could have strayed into streaming or mesh shaders, but first I chose to tame the beast within. I went from 64 million to 256 million grass blades while VRAM dropped from 10 GB to 5.4 GB by shrinking my instance format from 64 bytes to 10 bytes. The how is in the comments. More soon, friends.

@doqqo_ @VOIDInteractive You buy a game and its DLCs, then the developers of that game downgrade it in all possible aspects so the game can sell to a new audience, instead of working on a proper solution. Does this seem acceptable for a game that has made hundreds of millions?

Day 3 of next Fest ended and we are at 2058 wishlists. My original goal was to reach 1500 before the game's release, which became a reality shortly before releasing our demo.

A most pleasant surprise was the reception of the narrative and The Captain. Being the only other character in the demo, it was nice to hear people found him interesting and wanting to see how his story continues. Also the acting and mixing was praised.

All players that I asked about the game praised the visuals and atmosphere. This was a really nice feeling because we spent months trying to get them right and had to re-do certain things. We also built everything gradually, in layers.

Yesterday we released our demo, overall reception was very positive. Some reported bugs and feedback was also given.
Players really enjoyed the atmosphere, visuals and the narrative + voice over. We will improve some gameplay moments and bugfix ahead of Steam Next Fest.
