the issue is that BOOKS are falling in quality and a ton of published works lately are fanfic-level literature. It's not that fanfics are suddenly better, it's that published books have dropped massively in quality

my gripe is that a lot of fanfiction readers crave validation and legitimacy but instead of making an argument in favour of fic on the basis of what fic actually does they are making claims about how milton, dante, and shakespeare wrote fic. which they did not.
