Human beings, as a collective, regularly struggle to conceptualize exponential progress in any given domain. We are linear thinkers living in an increasingly exponential world. In this video, I break down why our brains fail to grasp the explosive power of compounding growth, why this cognitive blind spot leaves us dangerously unprepared for the future of artificial intelligence, and how to start recalibrating your mind for a nonlinear future.

Interesting that in three of my recent conversations with Krishna at Anthropic, @dylan522p, and @GavinSBaker, each said that frontier tokens are capturing the majority of the economic value. Gavin: "An overwhelming amount of the economic returns to AI at the model layer have been at the frontier. That's surprising to me, and I think it's been surprising to a lot of people. This is one of the most important questions to be answered, and you need to have a hypothesis on it as an investor." Krishna: "We think the returns to frontier intelligence are extremely high. Customers invest really heavily in more tokens with the newer models. The ones at the frontier clearly are capturing this economic value, driving meaningful ROI for customers. The returns to frontier intelligence are not slowing down." Dylan: "No one gives a crap about GPT-4 class models. They want the frontier because the frontier lets them create the economically valuable things."

This is my sixth conversation with @GavinSBaker. As always with Gavin, the conversation covers a lot of ground, but we spend the most time on watts and wafers. We discuss: - Why the wafer shortage may prevent an AI bubble - Data centers in space (reframed) - Elon's Terafab and the new chip companies challenging Nvidia - Usage-based pricing - The disaggregation of GPUs - DRAM, frontier tokens, and open source Enjoy! I've seen a big dog, but never one the size of an airplane. We experience linearity in daily life, which is exactly why our brains fail to intuitively grasp exponential progress. Yet AI does not scale linearly.

I love how heavily @SpaceX leaned into photography in their S-1. The first 15 pages are all pictures, many of which have no explanation at all. It just makes you... feel.

People are generally bad at thinking nonlinearly I forecast people will be very surprised by the growth that’s about to come 👀 🚀
Elon Musk@elonmusk

As the recently expanded partnership with @AnthropicAI demonstrates, @SpaceX is offering AI compute as a service at significant scale. We are in discussions with other companies to do the same. Over time, especially with orbital data centers, we expect to serve AI at extremely high scale.

Something to think about : what does life look like 25 years from now if AI continues to improve. I don’t think any AI community ( broad tech industry , academia , various timelines predictions) have done a great job articulating a positive long term future for humanity and what it means for the institutions and traditions that a lot of the world holds dear.

Money is the most insanely incredible invention ever. It puts a price on lies. It creates revealed preference. It enables trust between strangers and aligns incentives between civilizations. God tier technology.

someone yesterday asked me what i thought high agency meant. i think it’s usually some unholy combination of: - resourcefulness - relentlessness - resilience this has always been rare, but rn it feels borderline unfair. the world has never had more leverage just sitting around waiting for one person stubborn enough to use it.

One important point to add here is questioning a particular system does not always mean discarding it, sometimes your conviction in a system can grow from questioning it, and sometimes your conviction can fall apart. Questioning simply ensures you aren't following blindly.
WARÚHIÚ@kamauwaruhiu

My advice to the younger generation. Question every system. Marriage, education, employment, contemporary businesses, tax ,politics , police, law and order , religion, social dynamics . Dnt follow and obey blindly it doesn't work.
