#WATCH | Delhi | On SC refusing to modify directions to remove stray dogs from public places, Animal rights activist, Advocate Punita Jha, says, "... We have the ABC (Animal Birth Control) guidelines of 2023 in place, which include a 'pick-and-drop' provision. You cannot simply pick up dogs and put them in a shelter permanently. They have rights... There are Articles 19, 21, and Article 51-A(g), which mandate compassion for animals, specifically instructing us to protect every living creature... No one is going to build shelters for dogs. The costs involved are exorbitant, and even if shelters were constructed, the dogs housed within them would likely not be provided with food... If any improvement were going to happen, it would have happened long ago. We wouldn't have to bear the cost of sterilisation out of our own pockets..."

Delhi: On the Supreme Court verdict regarding stray dogs, Advocate Punita says, "The judgment is completely inhumane and cannot be accepted at all. You are saying to remove them from the roads, but you are not even able to remove cows. They are eating garbage, sir. We call cows our mother, yet we are unable to do anything for them. There are so many rape cases reported in shelter homes that children are being taken away every night, and there is no inquiry..."

.@Manekagandhibjp said sterilisation is the only effective solution to reduce stray dog population and dog bites, while warning against relocation and misinformation around euthanasia. She also clarified that the Supreme Court has not allowed euthanasia and urged people not to spread panic. #ManekaGandhi #StrayDogs #DogBites #AnimalWelfare #Sterilisation #SupremeCourt #AnimalRights #IndiaNews #StreetDogs #PublicSafety @sardesairajdeep

#StrayDogs #SupremeCourt

@gauri_maulekhi This is the most ignorant order and should be questioned, not celebrated. Justices Vikram, Sandeep and Anjaria proved their biases are stronger than logic. They came with a govt agenda to remove stray dogs. It didn’t matter what they heard. They spewed unproved statistics. #Shame

131-page Supreme Court judgment. 32 mentions reinforcing the Animal Birth Control Rules. 1 line permitting euthanasia for rabid or mortally wounded dogs - and that becomes the headline. Clickbait thrives on fear. The law doesn’t. The architecture of today’s order: ABC Rules upheld, one ABC centre per district mandated, every High Court on compliance watch. This reinforces what has always been the only humane and scientific framework: Sterilise. Vaccinate. Return. Let’s keep our focus where it needs to be. #streetdogs #dogsofindia #factsoverfear

Has anyone lost their dog in the Central Bangalore/Cooke Town/Frazer Town/Banaswadi area? Neighbours found him struggling on the street yesterday and he is clearly someone's pet, anxious to find his way back home. Please RT for reach!

Ejipura Flyover has finally resumed construction. A historical day not just for Bangalore but also for us who have grown up with this historical monument. Our forefathers started work on this centuries ago despite the odds. Our ancestors played hide and seek along its beautiful pillars. There was an even an episode dedicated to the monument on myth busters on the History Channel where it was falsely claimed to have been built by aliens a millennia ago. When all else failed an Instagram phenomenon called manifestation was used by the younger citizens to help propel its completion. And today we are witnessing nothing short of history. They say all good things come to those who wait and this monument is a beautiful testament to that.

@VaidyaTaniya @gauri_maulekhi Exactly. "aggressive dogs will be confined". But if people are not allowed to feed dogs, naturally they'll turn aggressive and then have justification to confine them?

#BREAKING #SupremeCourt stays the August 11 direction that the stray dogs which are picked up must not be released. The dogs which are picked up must be released after sterilisation and immunisation, except those infected with rabies or exhibiting aggressive behaviour.

Subject: I Will Stand Against the Law to Remove Community Dogs — Even If It Costs My Life I will never obey any Supreme Court order that mandates the removal of our community dogs. I stand firmly against this law to protect our innocent, voiceless friends. 🔥 If the Supreme Court decides to punish me — even with a death sentence — I would accept it with pride, because I would be dying to save innocent lives. 🔥 Every day, crores of humans die in road accidents — just like dogs are sometimes harmed — yet no one bans vehicles. If life truly comes first, then why not ban all vehicles and send them to dumping grounds? I am heartbroken to see that the Supreme Court now appears to think in a selfish way, ignoring compassion and humanity. I will continue to fight for justice, love, and coexistence. @LiveLawIndia @barandbench @PMOIndia @AwbiBallabhgarh #SaveDelhiNCRDogs #StandForStrays #JusticeForStrayDogs #CompassionFirst #AnimalRightsIndia #DogsOfIndia

@mehmoodfs @muglikar_ Problem I am trying to highlight is we’ve turned this into an animal lover vs hater fight while the govt walks free. The dog that hurt kids & elders might never have been there if tax money for sterilisation was actually used instead of lining pockets.

@purnima30 @muglikar_ Vaccinated or not. We don't want stray animals on roads. Cities are not for animals. Either adopt and keep any animals in your home under your responsibility or send them back to jungles where they belong.

Please do not club sane animal lovers with insane animal lovers. As I type this: we have 2 indies as pets and all of them are at home and in farm house. I love dogs and forever we have had a dog at home and at farms. No: I have never ever fed a street dog. They are dangerous and a threat to commoners. Fully endorse SC judgment to take all street dogs to shelter. Real animal lovers bring pets to their homes. Not feed them and leave them out. It’s so simple!

@Roflindian The real problem? No one’s holding govt accountable. Decades of tax money for sterilisation, zero real progress. Yet it’s made to look like animal lovers are to blame for caring. You, me, us, we have all paid for this for years time to ask why it wasn’t done & how we got here.

No stray dogs in Australia. No stray dogs in Singapore. No stray dogs in Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Prague, Tokyo & Seoul. But if Delhi aims to be stray dog free, animal lovers lose their shit. Happy living among stray dogs then. Stepping on dog shit every morning and getting barked at, chased, scratched and bitten during your walks.

@Roflindian A country doesn’t develop by first removing dogs, then “doing other things.” Real progress comes from cutting corruption including actually using sterilisation funds for what they’re meant for. No country solved strays by dumping them on the outskirts overnight.

Updates from lawyer friends whom I have been chatting with about yesterday's SC order on stray dogs in Delhi. 1. The order will be studied legally, have patience. Response should be patiently & methodically drafted. 2. Cursory reading of the order - MCD has to create facilities and inform the court, within time stipulated before any animals can be picked up off the streets. 3. Nothing much changes on the ground as of now, if you are taking care of community animals continue to do so. Ensure you don't break any existing laws and for your own protection keep a camera to document harassment, if any, to take legal action. Any person harassing or intimidating anyone in public or private spaces can be legally proceeded against under existing criminal laws. My personal advice, don't go alone to feed street animals, have someone with you for safety. 3. Plenty of highly qualified lawyers are ready to fight this pro-bono for voiceless street animals. There is much empathy in the legal profession and we should be deeply grateful. 🙏 4. Keep faith.
