I think this is what’s happening, although I could be completely right or completely wrong. I don’t think Barcelona are going to let a player who openly spoke during the World Cup about wanting to leave slip away that easily. If you look at it from Atlético’s perspective, it wouldn’t make much sense to keep a player who no longer wants to play for them. They wouldn’t benefit from him either on the pitch or financially. A player who doesn’t want to stay is unlikely to perform at his best, and his market value will only continue to drop. Yes, Barcelona have set a deadline for this deal, but I don’t think they’ve actually pulled out yet. In my opinion, all the reports about them walking away are nothing more than pressure tactics. Pressure on Atlético, because they know exactly what the player wants, and they also know they’ll lose money on him if this drags on. It could also be a way of putting pressure on Álvarez himself. If the club wants him to take a certain step and he’s refusing or hesitating, these reports become another negotiating tool. That’s just what I think, and right now it feels like the most likely scenario, even if Barcelona have genuinely started exploring other options.
