Always remember that one of the reasons Khomeini and Mullah Co gained so much power in the 60s and 70s was the radical reaction to the amount of rights Pahlavi granted to Iranian women. Khomeini + clerics had MELTDOWNS over Iranian women being granted the right to vote because of "tradition." If it were up to them, Iranian women would be in the same position as the women of Afghanistan under the Taliban.
