@Eze_Wilberforce quick question....in order to determine the value at the time of my passing, I'm assuming they would reassess the value of the property at that time. Would property taxes then be increased for our heirs based on the new valuation??

Whatever you do, do not let your parents transfer their house into your name. Instead, do what the wealthy do. If your parents are retiring and they tell you they want to sign the deed of the house over to you, maybe they bought the house for next to nothing back in the eighties and now it is worth $800,000, do not do it. If they transfer it to you while they are alive, you will take their original tax basis. This means that when you eventually sell, you will have to pay capital gains tax on the entire increase in value since they bought it. The taxman does not care that it was a gift. Here is what the wealthiest families do instead: Step 1: Set up a revocable living trust and place the home inside it. It keeps your parents in full control while they are alive, but sets up a smooth, private transfer later. Step 2: Your parents should name you as the beneficiary of the trust. That way, when they pass away, the house automatically moves to you with no court involvement and no probate. Step 3: When you inherit the house through the trust, you get a stepped-up basis. That means you only pay capital gains tax on any increase in value that occurs after they passed away, not on the huge appreciation since the 1980s. That single move can save you over $120,000 in taxes. That is how you pass inheritance to your children without losing a dollar to the system. If you want to stop the government from taking a cut of your family’s hard-earned assets, follow these steps.

You simply cannot watch both teams play and think Stephen Curry is officiated the same way Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is. I have no theory as to why that is, other than maybe one guy is more willing to sell. But anyone who says this is the same is lying or divorced from reality.

I’ve never felt Larry Doby gets enough credit for integrating the American League less than three months after Jackie Robinson debuted for the Dodgers. Today while we honor Jackie, let’s also take some time to remember Larry Doby and his huge contribution to the game.

@brandonousley Those first three albums were quite a run!!! She toured after that third album, and I had the privilege of seats, fourth row center, at Shoreline. It remains one of my greatest concert memories. She was amazing, and the band was tight!!!

1863. The Central Pacific Railroad needed to cross the Sierra Nevada. White workers quit. “Too high, too cold, too dangerous.” The foreman hired 50 Chinese men from California. They worked. By 1868, 12,000 Chinese men were 90% of the workforce. Pay was $28/month. White men got $35 + board. Chinese bought their own food. Slept in tents at 8,000 feet. They called them “Celestials.” Said they were too small. Then they watched. Chinese crews laid 10 miles of track in one day — April 28, 1869. A record never broken. White crews managed 2 miles. They hung in baskets off cliffs to blast Cape Horn. Snow tunnels through Donner Summit — 15 tunnels, 1,659 feet of granite. No machines. Black powder, chisels, and nerve. Hundreds died in avalanches and explosions. Company records say “2 dead.” Graves say 1,200. In 1867 they struck. 5,000 men walked off. Demanded $40/month and 8-hour shifts in tunnels. The boss cut off food and supplies. Starved them back in 8 days. May 10, 1869. Promontory Summit. Golden Spike ceremony. The photo has zero Chinese men. They were told to step aside. They built 1,776 miles of America. Excluded from citizenship until 1943.

@paulieknep Seems like Vitale sending U of D Assistant Smokey Gaines would have been a good strategy to recruit Moses. Smokey was relentless and fearless. Dwight Anderson told me stories about his recruitment by Smokey (Dwight "The Blur" eventually signed with Kentucky).

Here's one of my favorite stories from research for my Moses Malone book. I interviewed Dick Vitale. Dick was the coach at the University of Detroit in 1974 & heavily recruited Moses out of high school. He made trips to Petersburg, VA and got to know Moses and Moses's mother. (1)

The NBA says there were two incorrect calls in last night's GSW-HOU matchup, which would have directly impacted the game: 1) The NBA says Amen Thompson should have been called for a foul on Steph Curry with 1:27 left after a made layup. 2) Alperen Sengun should have been called for a 3-second violation with 1:10 left, which should have resulted in a turnover. This led to Alperen Sengun making a layup and Draymond Green fouling him. Sengun made the subsequent free throw.
