@christobel_wood@betterwest2016 That's not comparable size. Metrotunnel alone costs $11bn and takes until 2026. Werribee line requires 17 lxr, not 2. 10km dup not 1km.
@christobel_wood@betterwest2016 I like PT too, but it's dwarfed by road: even if we built several new Werribee lines, it wouldn't be enough fix the problem.
@christobel_wood@betterwest2016 These are real people - and that's time which they're missing with their families: more than one lifetime is lost every single day.
@christobel_wood@betterwest2016 But you can't just expect half the city to wait until 2040 or so to be able to get to work and back in a reasonable time.
@christobel_wood@betterwest2016 It takes even longer to build the new lines which are needed (and to build the tunnels under the city to integrate them).
@christobel_wood@betterwest2016 To provide the rail infrastructure you're dreaming of takes decades. It takes real time to build tunnels, to duplicate lines, remove xings.
@christobel_wood@betterwest2016 I agree, it shouldn't cost what is reported (although who knows, given government), but again, it's yet another multi-billion dollar cost.
@christobel_wood@betterwest2016 We went through this: 72+ extra peak hour services are required to match WGT capacity. One every ten minutes is no increase at all.
