It was in the startup procedure... They turned off the generator because they started the wrong engine first because the regular one would not start first. They started the second engine to build up the batteries to start the the first engine but forgot to turn the generator back on... The Engines and electronics were starved for energy, the cockpit displays went blank. They realized the problem, Flipped the switch to turn on the generator but it was too late to make it back to land. The pilot's son was the co-pilot, was not rated for jets, just single prop planes. FAA was pretty descriptive in their findings.
