Subtropolis is real — But the stuff about it being a gateway to drive to other countries through secret subterranean freeways? That's straight-up conspiracy talk.
The place is basically just a giant, climate-controlled storage facility run by a private company. Pretty cool on its own without needing the secret underworld angle.
The closest similar one is Springfield Underground in Missouri, about 150 miles away, which is also an old limestone mine with millions of square feet of storage space.
Beyond those two, the U.S. has lots of underground tunnels under cities for walking between buildings, like in Houston or Atlanta, plus Cold War bunkers like Mount Weather or Cheyenne Mountain.
But nothing else on the scale of giant commercial "cities" underground. The conspiracy claims about dozens of secret ones are just stories, not backed by evidence.
