@CraigSarg73 The TGA is completely captured by industry and why are we paying for drugs like Paxlovid and Tamiflu (aka Scamiflu) which are very expensive and next to useless.

@DrNeilStone I had four vaccines over the last week - COVID, Influenza, Pneumococcal and Shingles. I'm much the same as before except I'm far less likely to suffer from some nasty and potentially fatal diseases. The choice could hardly be simpler.

There can be NO doubt that Albanese knows the nuclear waste component of AUKUS would be totally on the nose with the electorate. The secrecy behind this deal with USA shows just how bad the deal is. Labor is f*cking the country with AUKUS. michaelwest.com.au/foi-to-die-alb…

@prissmorgen @Globalstats11 Australia was attacked. Darwin was bombed. There was bitter fighting between Australian and Japanese troops in New Guinea. The Australian army and air force inflicted the first land defeat on the Japanese army at the Battle of Milne Bay in New Guinea.

@Rainmaker1973 The first Diesel engine ran off of seed oil and was the new trend during that time in the 1800's, Big Oil pushed it out. Old tech and new alternatives are good for competition. We cant sustain at the current Petro consumption rate, we need alternatives.

Japan’s major oil company ENEOS has started producing synthetic fuel using CO₂ and hydrogen derived from water at its Yokohama facility. It currently produces about 1 barrel a day, but aims to scale to around 10,000 barrels per day by 2040.

🚨🇦🇱JUST IN: More than 100,000 citizens are protesting in Tirana, Albania, against the controversial resort project linked to Trump-Kushner, which is planned to be built in the south of Albania. ⚡️The project has received approval from the Albanian government, but the protesters are demanding its cancellation over its suspicious offshore financing, as the project would destroy the ecosystem in a protected area and landscape #Albania

@simonmaechling Well, for starters CO2 is well mixed in the atmosphere ie you don't get a free pass from climate change because your country is a low emitter. But you should know that.

@PaigeSully88 @hashjenni There are ways and engineering means of reducing freshwater use. Eg closed loop cooling where water purity is only needed for the closed loop. Might even be able to use sea water cooling if available. As in thermal power plants - coal or nuclear.

Can’t wrap my head around why AI data centers need fresh water. Not recycled, not wastewater. Fresh, drinkable water, burned through by the millions of gallons just to keep servers cool. Why are we using a basic human necessity to prop up machines?

@ick_real Honey Bees are livestock and don't really need saving. Some wild bees may in fact need saving. There are something like 2000 species of bees in Australian alone. I prefer real conservation to cheap slogans.

Just been on the phone with a friend in Australia. The housing situation there sounds increasingly intolerable, with costs running ahead of wages and extreme tightness in the renter's market. Used to be you can buy a house in Sydney with 5 years salary. Now it's more like 12. People blame immigrants. But shouldn't they be blaming salary? "Even without the immigrants, we would have run into the same kind of problems, just 10 years later. But if you shut out the immigrants now, what's going to happen to the economy?" There are a lot of moving pieces to this problem. And Australia is hardly alone. There's a toxic loop where people vote their interests and since the majority are houseowners they vote for line goes up. The young and marginalized can't outvote them, and eventually buy in at inflated rates precariously. Now what happens to society if line ever goes down? But can line keep going up forever?
