@JoshYohe_PGH true. which is why you'd offer him 1 year, not 5. and if he averages a PPG next year you could offer him another 1 year deal. nobody's suggesting a long contract. as brilliant as he's been, if dubas botches this i think people might turn on him. that is what Geno means to us.

My column on Geno Malkin, a very tricky decision, and the reality that saying goodbye to a Pittsburgh icon is inevitable sooner rather than later: nytimes.com/athletic/70967…

@JoshYohe_PGH i really don't understand this at all. you've got a beloved franchise icon averaging a PPG, willing to play for less than he is worth, playing on the most effective line on the team...WTF is going on? there HAS to be something we are not being told about this situation.

Kyle Dubas' full answer on Evgeni Malkin's future with the Penguins: "I think that, No. 1, the players here, it's not as though you're talking about any normal player or normal situation. I think it's the most unique situation in sports, the number of seasons Geno, Sid and Kris have played together, how much success they've had in Pittsburgh. You want to be very cut and dry about it. That's my job to some extent. You also want to treat them with a different level of respect. The team knows what they've contributed to the community and the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the end, we have to do what's best for the Pittsburgh Penguins. With players who get to that age, it's not always a simple answer. Sometimes you feel one way as a player, but then you go through the year and you feel differently. We've communicated with J.P. (Barry). We've communicated with Geno. Geno has communicated with the public, which is his right. He's earned that. But I don't think it serves -- as much as everyone else in the room and the public would like for me to comment further -- I don't think it's in the best interest of the Pittsburgh Penguins for me to do so. It's all been communicated to J.P. and Geno. We'll continue to be in close conversations with them and do what's best for the team."

@billbarnwell TWO 3rd round picks for an unproven former 6th round pick? instead of give their own unproven 6th round pick a shot for free? i wouldn't offer one, but you think it would take two 3rds to get McKee? McKee is THAT much better than anyone they could draft this year? i don't get it.

@DKThomp explain how it could be thinking AND hallucinating. i don't see how those two things are compatible. also, have Cal Newport on your podcast. he talks about AI a lot on his podcast and is more on the skeptical side of this.

There are still a lot of journalists and commentators that I follow who think AI is nothing of much significance—still just a mildly fancy auto complete machine that hallucinates half the time and can’t even think. If you’re in that category: What is something I could write, or show with my reporting and work, that might make you change your mind?

@MichaelFFlorio in the last 55 years the highest the steelers have ever picked is 8th. their roster just made the playoffs. they may have a losing record next year, but in a league with the jets, cardinals, browns, and raiders, it's laughable they would end up being the worst team in the league.

The Steelers have been stuck in football purgatory for a decade now and Mike Tomlin was always going to have them too competitive to get out of it But Steelers fan, get ready, yall might be the worst team in football the next 2-3 years

@CarterCritiques @JoshYohe_PGH go look at the box scores/deficits of those 6 games: 21-0, 21-0, 35-7, 28-0, 21-0, 36-9. you would think the (guy w/his fingerprints on the defense) coach is somewhat responsible for this. not completely, but definitely somewhat. fans are right to be frustrated.

@JoshYohe_PGH "Destroyed" to me is at least losing by 3 scores -- which has only happened once. And again, 22 coaches have done that or worse more often, but somehow they're not the target for it.

Mike Tomlin and the #Steelers being 9-8 is a popular joke, but they've only been 9-8 once (and have never been worse) in the 5 years the #NFL has had 17 games. So why that label? 22 coaches have been 9-8 or worse for more seasons during that time: 4 times: Pete Carroll, Kevin Stefanski 3 times: Dennis Allen, Todd Bowles, Dan Campbell, Brian Daboll, Matt Eberflus, John Gannon, Mike McDaniel, Ron Rivera, Shane Steichen, Zac Taylor 2 times: Dave Canales, John Harbaugh, Matt LaFleur, Raheem Morris, Kevin O'Connell, Sean Payton, Doug Pederson, Brandon Staley, Mike Vrabel That includes the last 6 consecutive winners of NFL Coach of the Year (Harbaugh/Stefanski 2x/Vrabel/Daboll/O'Connell). So why does Tomlin get that label?

I don’t believe it either but Thomas is worth much more than a fourth
Ron@Roncito11

@DMRussini @WilliamsonNFL 1. I don’t believe it. 2. If true, there must be something besides his poor play that concerns the Jags. 3. I don’t seem teams wanting to give up anymore than a 4th round pick based on his performance this season.

@JasonLaCanfora so you don't think they win a lot because they have a great qb and a great head coach? you think it's the officials? and that the league is fixing games because they want the best team in the league to play in missouri, not...i don't know...new york city? or chicago?

#KCvsJAX officiating crew cheat sheet The @Chiefs are 5-0 SU & 4-1 ATS in games officiated by referee Brad Rogers. KC was favored by an avg of -7.5 pts in those contests & KC avgs only 3.5 penalties per game w' this crew The @Jaguars rank No.1 in penalty per game avg, with their OFFENSE accounting for 61% of overall penalties In raw numbers, the Jaguars co-rank No.1 in penalties per game avg via the all-important OFF-HOLD/FALSE START combination Brad Rogers crew rank top 5 for OFFENSIVE HOLDING penalties in 2025 1st/2nd downs account for 57.5% of penalties through 4 weeks ofs the #NFL season. However, Rogers' crew are calling 65% of penalties on these downs & Jacksonville is committing 67% of their penalties on 1st/2nd downs Those early downs will be key on MNF w' this crew in charge Keep an eye on THREE key categories; DEFENSIVE HOLDING/OFFENSIVE + DEFENSIVE PASS INTERFERENCE . Rogers' crew consistently called an above avg percentage of their overall penalties via these categories The Jags have feasted & won due to their league leading turnover ratio. However, the Chiefs & Mahomes aren't a team that turn the ball over at a high rate, negating the Jags advantage Kansas City looked a totally different team last week w' Xavier Worthy back . That continues this week on #MNF Prediction #Chiefs 30 - #Jaguars 20 #ChiefsKingdom #DUUUVAL

@JoshYohe_PGH @x412xSPORTSx plenty of things to criticize him about, but to pretend that he doesn't have strengths is ridiculous. the steelers haven't had overwhelming talent in a long time, but this guy somehow squeezes out more wins than losses. maybe that's not good enough. fair. but he's a good coach.

I don't give Tomlin credit for much and I think he's among the more overrated coaches in football history. But I will say this for him: He doesn't let his teams fall apart when they're getting bad QB play. I can't say that for most of the NFL, especially Cincinnati. Pathetic.
