@ucustandrews For those of us with more than 50% of salary funded by UKRI to do research/KE, is it legal for universities to deduct 50% for MAB?

Secondly, the bullying. The St Andrews approach is to deduct 50% for each day from May 20th – up until all marking is complete. This open-ended approach makes it one of the most punitive, while also not reflecting the proportion of work that is taken up with marking. (7/11)

A little re-cap of what’s been happening at St Andrews We have some of the earliest exam boards and graduations, this is likely to be repeated across the country. TL:DR – They’ve chosen to undermine degree quality and are trying to bully staff out of the MAB (1/11)

Nearly hot off the press, still! Great to be part of the core team for this paper led by Francesco Sabatini and @sPlot_iDiv. nature.com/articles/s4146…. Also see this press release about it. nottingham.ac.uk/news/research-… @UoNGeogResearch @fschrodt

Hot off the press @NatureComms ⬇️ The first (near-global) map of local (alpha) plant species richness, meaning at the spatial scale at which species co-occur! I am so proud to be part of the great @sPlot_iDiv team led by Francesco Maria Sabatini 👏 Teaser: unexpected hotspots 😉

Good presentations and interesting discussion at #humboldtday on #WomenInBiogeography. Audience was only ~20% male. Wonder to what extent that is to do with men feeling uncomfortable 'barging in' to such events vs not caring about the issues as much as women?

Ah, the vagaries of peer review. This somehow brings to mind the President of the Linnaean Society stating in his review of the year 1858 that the year had not included 'any of those striking discoveries which at once revolutionise the department of science'...

This is the rejection letter for the work that just won the Nobel Prize. Don’t stop believing! I should save all of mine and maybe one day some stranger will think it’s an amazing relic and tweet it...
