It was 7 years ago this week when
Indiana Senator Birch Bayh passed away.
Senator Bayh wrote Title IX, whose 37 words changed history for girls and women in the U.S.
Title IX barred sex discrimination in education and greatly expanded sports programs for women.
Thank you, Senator Bayh. Your legacy lives on.

So, *why* does this happen? Buckle up for a sport psychology 🧵 on the Catastrophe Model: When I watched this happen, I thought Ilia was dealing with an acute stress response. I told my pal it looked to me like he lost the ability to connect with his body, as if his brain got...

Finally got a chance to read @ThompsonScribe's outstanding piece on Ilia Malinin's disastrous free skate. I found Malinin's introspection, emotional honesty and openness really impressive. He'll be back, and better for it. nytimes.com/athletic/70454…

When little ones hear about violent events on the news or in their communities, it can be hard to help them understand and cope with what happened. Limiting media exposure and making space for them to express big feelings can help children feel safer and more secure.

@SenatorWarnock Throughout the colonies, slavery was embedded in the economy. This is American history, it’s complicated and messy and not pretty, and we all need to learn it.

@Mr_Andrew_Fox Please don’t use the word, “incredible,” here, Andrew. You go on to show evidence that these survival rates are real, and therefore credible. They are, as you say, “astonishing,” and wonderful and I thank you for this post

These medical stats from the IDF are incredible, and all thanks to incredible medical innovation. Tell me again that we should boycott the IDF and have nothing to learn from them.
The IDF reports that their casualty fatality rate (the percentage of those injured who subsequently die) decreased from 14.3% (2006) to 9.2% (Protective Edge, 2014) to 7.2% (Iron Swords, 2023–2025), while the proportion of survivors with severe injuries (Injury Severity Score above 15) increased from 10.5% to 15.3% to 22.3% over the same period.
More soldiers are surviving injuries that would have been fatal in the past. The IDF estimates that 600 soldiers survived injuries in Gaza that would have been fatal in earlier conflicts.
Between 2001 and 2011, 75.7% of IDF deaths were classified as non-survivable injuries, with 24.3% of deaths attributed to “combat reasons” (casualty could not be reached in time) or “potentially survivable” (might survive if the injury occurred right next to high-quality medical care).
In Gaza, only 2.5% of deaths were due to combat reasons, 7.56% were potentially survivable, and 89.92% were non-survivable.
It cannot be understated that these statistics cumulatively represent an astonishing improvement.

@kershaw_alex @monomoyhistory My father was wounded at the beginning of this battle. After recovering in England he was assigned to a desk job in Paris, where he was on VE. Day. I still have the watch his Swiss coworker gave him on that day

A Jewish friend writes. Sums it up perfectly.
“I’m glad you’re angry. I’ve had a few people reach out to me in sympathy and sadness, but I want their rage. I should be able to go on the tube without being stalked like a deer, and go to religious festivals without people trying to murder me. Ffs.”
