A journalist asks a question.
@murtazawahab1 responds with mockery.
This isn’t a one off. It’s a pattern.
And it’s getting worse.
Public office isn’t a stage for arrogance, it’s a duty of accountability.
The Pakistan Peoples Party needs to step in @AAliZardari to stop this rowdy nonsense. Silence is complicity.
Karachi deserves leaders who answer not deflect.
Respect the press. Respect the people of #Karachi.

Karachi feels like it’s being treated as nothing more than an ATM, while its people are left struggling with the consequences. Those who influence who governs each province should be transparent when does this arrangement end? When will #Karachi finally be free from exploitative leadership and given the attention it deserves?
Have some mercy on the people who call this city home.

Ethics, professionalism, and the basic capacity to answer simple questions objectively are not optional they are the minimum standards of public office. @murtazawahab1, resorting to personal remarks and insults instead of addressing citizens’ concerns is unacceptable and reflects a serious lapse in judgment. Public office is a position of service, not authority to demean others. Citizens deserve accountability, respect, and substantive answers not hostility or deflection. x.com/Adljaferi/stat…

Billions spent on roads.
One rain and everything collapses.
Drainage fails.
Electric wires kill.
Streets turn into sewage.
And yet, we’re told “situation is under control.”
This isn’t a natural disaster.
This is man-made failure.
Same government.
Same promises.
Same results.

Karachi Airport: An Institutional Failure on Full Display
Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport has quietly turned into a place of embarrassment for international travelers and daily humiliation for Pakistani citizens.
Let’s be clear. Many countries still use physically manned immigration counters. That is not the problem. The problem is basic operational incompetence.
At Karachi Airport, immigration queues are arranged vertically instead of horizontally. One officer is expected to manage three parallel lines. This is not queue management. This is chaos by design. I have travelled across, have never seen such a layout at an international airport.
An FIA officer candidly admitted what passengers already know:
They are exhausted from repeatedly explaining the problem to airport staff, but there is no willingness or capacity to fix it.
Passengers routinely spend 2 to 4 hours just to clear immigration.
And it doesn’t end there.
Baggage handling is another endurance test. Bags are reportedly scanned before being placed on the belt, causing long delays. After waiting close to an hour to receive your luggage, passengers are then asked to scan the same bags again while exiting. This is not layered security. It is duplication without logic.
Outside the terminal, the situation deteriorates further. The pickup area resembles a political protest site rather than an international gateway.
The Pakistan Airports Authority appears to be operating in permanent reaction mode, as if waiting for a security incident instead of preventing one through planning and flow management.
These are not technology problems.
These are governance and accountability failures.
Airports are a country’s first and last impression. Right now, Karachi Airport reflects systemic apathy, poor coordination between CAA, ASF and FIA for airport operations, and a complete absence of service design thinking.
Pakistan can do better. But only if institutions stop normalizing dysfunction.

@SumairaJajja It’s mandatory for the department to give credit to their master mayor @murtazawahab1

Last update from KMC on Gul Plaza fire was 13 hours ago.
Why does the mayor need to give directives for machinery to reach a fire site? Departments can't do their job without direction?
Karachi Metropolitan Corporation@KmcPakistan
On the directives of Mayor @murtazawahab1 , KMC heavy machinery has reached the site. MC S. M Afzal Zaidi and senior officers are present, directly overseeing rescue operations. Municipal services and fire brigade teams are on ground, with additional machinery on alert. Immediate rescue and all possible assistance are being provided to affected citizens. Safety of life and property remains the top priority.
English

The tragedy at Gul Plaza is not just the collapse of a building; it is the collapse of a system that has been failing people for decades.
Rubble does not fall overnight. It is laid brick by brick through neglect, corruption, and protection granted to the regime in Government. What we witnessed in Karachi is the end result of a political setup kept alive not by performance, but by patronage and protection.
What is most painful is not only the silence of those in power, but the quiet comfort of those who enable this silence.
When a broken system is repeatedly shielded in the name of order, disorder becomes inevitable.
When failure is protected, tragedy becomes policy.
Gul Plaza should force us to ask difficult questions not just of politicians, but of every force that has sustained this rot while the city decays and its people pay the price.
Because when guardians look away, the rubble finds its victims.

Karachi’s urban crisis is a governance problem, not a leadership vacuum. When authority is split across institutions and accountability is blurred, planning becomes symbolic rather than functional.
As Pakistan’s largest economic hub, Karachi cannot afford fragmented decision-making. Infrastructure failure, broken civic services, and recurring urban disasters are the predictable outcomes of institutional dysfunction, not chance.
Talking about Karachi Development Plan 2047 is hollow if current urban governance in Karachi continues to fail.

@amberdanishh Now they started removing trees from main road from Ziauddin Hospital to Bilawal Round about. This criminal offence and violation of SHC orders by KMC.
English

@UsamaQureshy @amberdanishh And they will then start a plantation drive, spend money and cut ribbon followed by a press talk of how concerned the mayor is about the environment
English

@amberdanishh The city is becoming concrete jungle. Instead of planting trees, they are chopping of trees which is painful to see.
