An update from me — I've taken a step back from this app by deleting it, I'll occasionally lurk from desktop for updates but I've also created a bsky account under the same handle I might start using instead if the urge to post takes hold again.

@brakeboosted Regarding RB’s frustration it’s always hard to gauge how true it might be or if they’re objecting simply for the sake of it and will use this as bartering chip for something else. But agree the situation is ridiculous and just makes the FIA look incompetent as a regulatory body.

Red Bull's frustration is entirely justified. They're not the only ones who have invested significant resources, only for the FIA to completely reverse its stance just a month before pre-season. McLaren welcoming the change makes total sense. They were aware of the clarifications Red Bull and Ferrari were pushing for in relation to flexible bodywork. They were aware that those teams would need and were going to invest a lot of recourses to catch up in that regard. It's too convenient for them, they get whatever they want, I'm not even going to sugarcoat it. The sheer waste of money and effort to undo all this work is not emphasized enough—especially in the cost-cap era. On top of that, making such a rule change in the final season of this regulation set is utterly illogical. The FIA's justification—that this will help evaluate the 2026 regulations—is flawed. The introduction of active aerodynamics in 2026 will significantly reduce the need to push aeroelasticity to its current extremes. The idea of “flex-wings” is to replicate the benefits of active aero. Beyond that, it risks undermining what could be one of the most competitive seasons in the sport’s history. It also contradicts the FIA’s own sustainability efforts. If this change was necessary, it should have been announced at the end of last season—no later than early October. The only upside to this is that the FIA didn't push for the change immediately. They'll be able to exploit this until the 9th race of the season. Then I am willing to bet that the title race falls flat on its face. Someone will drop off, maybe more than one team, and they immediately switch focus to 2026. I find this situation completely ridiculous.

@FormulaUR_ I think the car characteristics (and reliability) will play a huge factor. Sainz and Albon have different preferences and we’ve seen in the past Sainz’s performance level change depending on if the car has understeer or oversteer characteristics.

I think a lot of people will be surprised by Albon. I still think Sainz is the favourite, but it’s not like Albon is still as bad as he was at Red Bull. He drastically underperformed to where he should’ve been at Red Bull - probably due to his inexperience of driving such a tricky car. But before that point - he was pretty much on the level of Kvyat instantly who was a pretty good benchmark.

@itsnotme_ari Or if you really think about it Singapore was one of a small handful of tracks that suited the SF-23, overtaking is challenging, Red Bull seemingly took the weekend off and the strategy for the first stint was drive slowly.

@scuderiaastefan @Szenzo88 I kind of miss the randomness. If the team were to be consistent then I prefer Red Bull or Merc’s approach highlighting seasons entered over a calendar year.

@F1Merc44 It’s funny that a regulation change gives potentially the biggest benefit to new teams and also helps attract new teams as no one will join a sport knowing they’ll already be years behind the competition… But then F1 itself is so averse to new teams.

I couldn't agree more with this. Every time we get close racing there is a new ruleset which means one team will likely nail it and we won't have close racing again for a few years...
