If I were at Nike I wouldn’t have taken it down. Nike’s DNA is winning and competition. It’s an ad for the Boston Marathon which is a RACE that is very hard to qualify for in a city that has a winning sports culture. Those details matter.
The line was good in that it “cut through” and got people talking about Nike. That’s the point of marketing. And I can guarantee you there’s a whole group of people in Boston who are runners and walkers alike that read it and loved it.
But you hear from the haters first and Nike folded. The brand needs to find their “Just do it” identity again. Unapologetic and aspirational.

After online backlash, Nike took down the sign that read “Runners Welcome. Walkers Tolerated.” on Newbury Street that was put up ahead of the Boston Marathon. runnersworld.com/news/a71052601… 📸: Screenshot via @irondoctorhaz

@BiotechGirlOKC @runliftrunlift You need to experiment to see what works FOR YOU. My recipe is some light work five days out (e.g., 8x1' moderate), EZ, EZ, off, about 20' w/ strides the day before (as early as possible) & a superslow 10' shakeout about 2-2.5 hours pre-race/warm up another 10' or so before race.
English

Looking for feedback on shake out run the day before a race. I almost prefer running 2 days before race day, day off, then a short warm up before race to get things going (less than mile). @runliftrunlift

@DarthEnvy Chris Chambliss 1976 to send the yankees to the world series

@DarthEnvy Chris Chambliss 1976 ALCS. Unless you lived through the CBS years, you'd have no idea how cathartic it was.

@yestoresearch The number of times someone drove in someone they were tying must be miniscule.
English

@JohnnyVince @ConorFoleyYES That's fair. I speak as a (frustrated) fan. However... the team needs a spark. Losses in April count too.
English

@raharfst @ConorFoleyYES It’s been 15 games. No competent executive is making decisions like that based on a 15-game sample size

Have you seen Yankees baseball, Joe?

I can’t believe I have to say this, but please don’t drink bleach.

@runliftrunlift I'm 62. Completely agree. I'd add that the focus of training shifts. Mobility, neuromuscular work (> 3K pace), agility (e.g., lateral shuffles, box jumps), and strength increasingly factor into the mix and drives fatigue management/recovery.
English

Getting older isn’t difficult because you can’t still train hard. It’s difficult because you can’t recover from hard training like you did before.
It’s not like you fall off a cliff. It’s a gradual shift. Year by year, your recovery capacity just isn’t quite what it used to be.
At 44, I don’t feel “old”but I can tell I don’t recover as quickly as in my mid 30s when I started running.
That’s the adjustment. Not lowering expectations, but respecting that I can’t always do what my mind thinks I can, or what I was able to handle 5 to 10 years ago.

@VetsForRL @HelmerVA Wholeheartedly second! Been watching Dan from neighboring district since he flipped a key seat. This is someone we want in Congress.

VFRL ENDORSEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT:
Veterans for Responsible Leadership is proud to announce our endorsement of U.S. Army Veteran, Dan Helmer, for U.S. House to represent Virginia's 7th District. Dan graduated from West Point and served tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Dan has been a fighter for American values and a defender of democracy his entire life, but especially since the first election of Donald Trump.
Dan has publicly stated that other than 9/11, Trump's election to the Presidency and what he has done is the greatest threat to our democracy in our lifetimes. He quit his job to run for office and was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2019.
Dan has been an incredibly productive leader in the Virginia House of Delegates. He has been a champion on gun violence prevention laws like universal background checks, red flag laws, and making sure domestic abusers couldn’t have access to guns. He also led on bills ensuring the victims of sexual assault on college campuses are protected and voted to protect abortion rights in Virginia.
He has also been a defender of the Constitution by fighting for voting rights for every Virginian and most recently passed a bill to ensure that the truth about January 6this taught in our public schools – and the law ensuring that the perpetrators of that violent attack could never run for public office in Virginia.
Dan is a true leader and a selfless public servant and VFRL is honored to support his candidacy. @HelmerVA
