i’m sharing today’s episode of On This Day… 1776, because i am amazed at the progress our team at Primordial Soup has made in the last four months. but first - why did we start this project in the first place? why put ourselves in the spotlight, knowing there would be pushback? generative models and tools have developed at lightning speed in recent years, and their potential as storytelling instruments has become undeniable. so in january, we kicked off the this project to release 30 episodes over one calendar year, in order to track and demonstrate the progress of these models and how artists are learning to wield them. if you compare our first episode in january with today’s drop, it’s hard to ignore the advancements. it is still not cinema with a capital C. but it is, without a doubt, storytelling. at this moment in time, when our collective attention spans are bombarded with 8-second clips of nonsense, it is paramount that we invent new ways to explore longform narrative. On This Day… 1776 is doing just that. it also employs scores of artists, writers, producers, and SAG actors collaborating to figure out how to harness the tools. the future is unknown, but as artists we need to lean in and be a part of shaping it. i can't wait for you to see our july 4th drop celebrating america’s birthday. today’s episode directed by @isaachorror. produced by @promordialsoup_. distributed by @time youtube.com/watch?v=NOgEVC…
