The lack of solutions yesterday from Arteta with this one specific issue was bad. Arsenal played 19 progressive passes against Man City's 181. All the possession between the CBs + GK with no answer for the zonal high press of Man City. Haaland & Cherki's role were simple; prevent Rice/Zubimendi from receiving the ball behind the forward line whilst also covering off angles from CBs + GK. Doku & Semenyo's roles were similar, curve the ball back towards the goalkeeper from the CBs + retreat when needed if the ball was clipped over to the FBs. Bernardo & Rodri's role; more complex. Remaining in this zonal position with metres between them and Rice & Zubimendi was risky but very effective. When they remained just in front of the back-line they made it a 6v4 which was favourable for first/second balls when Arsenal had no answer and resorted to long balls. This exact pattern lost Arsenal almost every single possession of note, it even lost them the ball for the second City goal. An overload in the first phase with no idea how to use it. Not panic stations by any means but a very poor reflection on Arteta given the length of time this issue was prominent for throughout the game.

If we were holding the ball with the keeper to draw them off, they didnt buy it, so when the keeper kicked it long we have to win the first ball and at least hold it up for the 2nd ball, we did neither. Tactics were terrible.

In the second half, Arsenal failed to complete a progressive pass -- one that advances the ball 10+ yards outside the back 40 yards of the pitch -- until the 71st minute.

Wonder if Arteta will mention name-drop the Havertz and Saka chances in his press conference like he does with Martinelli. But who are we kidding we know he won't.

Pathetic display from Havertz tonight, worst player on the pitch by some distance. Missed a golden chance to put Arsenal in front, played in a role that requires him to create chances, didn’t create anything. Similar performance to that FA cup game vs Man united.

We got what was coming to us. Our gameplan has been terrible for a while. Arsenal sit back against Brighton and Mansfield, then what do you expect from Man City? Start your best goalkeeper in a cup final. Hope this is a wakeup call for Arteta. Change it up.
