Hypothetical idea; Could Lothian Buses (TfE) start a van hire side-business, to help encourage modal shift? - heavy discounts for current Ridacard users. - encourages car driver public transport. - give a level of certainty that personal logistics can be catered to.

A few minor alternations would make this a good thing. - GBR Blue for "please wait" - Green for trains ready to board (much like signahe you can find at Euston and Waterloo Also note: Train direction of travel facing to the right; this follows the standard reading direction.

A small but important improvement at London King's Cross Station - @LNER and @NetworkRailEC have jointly funded new platform end screens-when all installed these will provide much improved customer information, particularly when we have two trains sharing a single platform

Branding tells us a lot about the skill and care being put into an organisation - and its intentions. Take the famous Rail Symbol, known mostly as the double arrow. It's one of the most recognisable graphic elements in modern design, an immense success and thus very valuable.

@GarethDennis Can you explain the difference between RS1 and RS2? It’s a bit difficult to see in the photos and I want to be able to recognise it

@AlecCoates1 @GarethDennis It's good to have complimentary color scales for secondary media, such a digital media - like presentations, flexibility etc. but the deployment here makes it look like an explosion in an naval flag factory. But keeping to red, white and blue, is fine.

@railLKB @GarethDennis I still don't know why they thought so many colours were a good idea. Regardless of whether you think having the "flag" on the logo is good or not, the UK flag only has 3 colours - but they pulled an extra two out of thin air to just slap on there...

@john_grainger @LNER @NetworkRailEC This is good work, I love it! it's a start; but I'd like to see the deployment of the GBR color pallete. DFTO, Network Rail and LNER desperately need to join up and greatly a holistic, multidisciplinary Visual Identity.

This idea is bourne of the fallacy that, quite a number of car purchases in Edinburgh are made within the context of "well you can't move tables and chairs by bus!" Of small/new business trying to get from one end to the other, but facing the capital expense of a car or van.

- personnel can be polled from current staff of professional drivers. - council could grant bus lane and road gate exemption for easier routing through the city.

If the GBR team are listening; I'm available for consultation, or employment in this realm of visual identity. At the very least, talk to @networkrail's design advisory panel, and come up with strategy and plan going forward, that pulls in the major stakeholders.

Folks, over the past few weeks, I've been working on a proposal of a carefully crafted, holistic, multidisciplinary, visual Identity for Great British Railways. In terms of image for a brand? Or first step has to be bold, and in the right direction. x.com/i/status/20202…

All this is to say; all of my suggestions are UNOFFICIAL. Although, GBR, if you're listening - let's assemble a design team! 💙❤️

This, and I cannot stress this enough, make me upset and incandescently frustrated. It's setting a tone and message; "We don't know what we are doing, so let's just make it up as we go along."

@GarethDennis It's setting the tone and the message to passenger already; And that message is; "let's just roll with it because w don't know what we are doing."

@GarethDennis Let's add to this; - The abstract elements of the Union flag on liveries and publications give unorganised and directionless vibes. Everything is seemingly at randon, and no care for legibility or accessibility. It's absolutely clear that there is no visual identity strategy.

@jruddy99 Future fleets should be bought outright, however. The 170s cost £26m/year alone, for example and we've definitely paid more than their initial market value.

Do you know the first politician to suggest leasing of trains? John Prescott in 1991. Buying these outright would cost the thick end of £300m and they might not have much resale value in 10 years because no one will want a diesel train.
Cat Hobbs@CatHobbs

Huge missed opportunity that these new trains will not be owned by ScotRail They are being leased by Beacon Rail which is owned by JP Morgan Asset Management Rolling stock is the most profitable bit of the railway Scotland should own its own trains! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

As the UK Government weighs up whether it can afford rail electrification, the Indian Government is celebrating how much it has saved by electrifying & how it has created a resilient, affordable system that has avoided oil shocks.
