Current Update: • My RailMadad grievance was closed, but I still haven't received a detailed breakup of how Rs. 7,035 was calculated. • There has been no response regarding why the IRCTC website allows a solo passenger aged 1 year to book without any warning or validation. • The issue has now been covered by The Times of India. What I'm asking from Railways is simple: The exact rule under which my ticket was treated as "without a proper ticket." A detailed calculation of the additional Rs. 7,035. Better validation on the IRCTC website so genuine human errors are caught before booking.

Never imagined that my post would end up being covered by @timesofindia . A big thank you to @realanushh for reaching out, patiently hearing my side, verifying the documents, and covering the story responsibly. Hopefully this reaches the right people and leads to some meaningful discussion. Full Article timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bengaluru… Still waiting for a detailed response from @RailMinIndia @IRCTCofficial @RailwaySeva regarding the rule and the ₹7,035 calculation.

Dear @RailMinIndia @IRCTCofficial, Need clarification on two points regarding PNR 4139002538, Train 22691 Rajdhani Exp, DOJ: 23-Jun-2026 (Bengaluru–Nagpur). 1) During ticket checking, the TTE asked me to accompany him to the pantry coach, where there were no other passengers, and explained that I had to pay an additional ₹7,035, which I did not understand. When I started recording the interaction for my personal safety and future reference, I was told that I could not record videos. Is a passenger not allowed to record interactions with railway staff in such circumstances? If recording is permitted, kindly clarify this to staff. 2 ) My original fare was ₹3,589.05. While booking, I mistakenly entered my age as 1 year instead of 24 years. This was a genuine error, and even if I had entered 24 years, the fare would have remained exactly the same, as I did not avail any concession or discounted fare. I also carried valid government ID proofs matching my name and identity. Despite this, I was charged an additional ₹7,035 as "WITHOUT TICKET", taking my total travel cost to ₹10,624.05. Is this charge in accordance with Railway rules? I have the ticket, EFT details, payment proof, photos and recordings, and can share them if required. @RailwaySeva @AshwiniVaishnaw @SWRLY @drmsbc

Insurance? 😂 Bro, what are you even comparing? My full name has 17 letters, and IRCTC official Website doesn't even allow that many characters. So no matter how carefully I type, my name can never exactly match my Aadhaar on their system. By your logic, tomorrow they can charge me for that too. I accepted my mistake. You seem more interested in defending bad UX than understanding the point.

Calling someone illiterate for missing a dropdown value is rich. I didn't sit there and proudly type "1". On the website, opening the age box preselects 1 by default, and if you don't notice it, the booking goes through. Humans miss prefilled values all the time. That's why good systems have validation checks instead of relying on keyboard warriors to feel intellectually superior.

@ramakantfbx @RailMinIndia @IRCTCofficial Is the passenger so illiterate that he could not differentiate 1 and 24? How can this be a typo? Is it not your responsibility to input correct data? Stop blaming the system.

@alaksandarjesus @RailMinIndia @IRCTCofficial By your logic, IRCTC allowing a solo infant to reserve an AC berth is perfectly normal, but questioning a Rs 7,035 penalty for a typo with zero fare impact is a "mockery". Some people will defend anything as long as a government logo is attached to it.

Honestly, I thought after so many people from across India highlighted this issue, I'd at least get a proper explanation from @RailMinIndia @IRCTCofficial @RailwaySeva. But all I got was a generic closure. I accepted my mistake, paid the amount, and I'm not asking for sympathy. I simply asked for a breakup of how a ticket worth Rs 3589.05 became a total payment of Rs 10624.05, including an extra Rs 7035 under Section 138. Till now, nobody has explained the calculation. And what about IRCTC's responsibility? The website allowed a solo passenger aged 1 year to book a confirmed berth without any warning. I can't even enter my full name exactly as it appears on Aadhaar because of character limits. If passengers are expected to be 100 percent accurate and face penalties of this magnitude for genuine mistakes, shouldn't the booking system also have basic validation checks? Not fighting the rule. Just asking for transparency, accountability, and a proper explanation. @AshwiniVaishnaw @RailMinIndia @IRCTCofficial @RailwaySeva @GMSRailway

@rajeshsabnani Funny you mention literacy while assuming everyone used the same interface you did. I booked through the website and got no warning whatsoever. If a typo deserves a Rs. 7,035 penalty, then IRCTC's UX deserves at least a popup saying, "A 1-year-old travelling alone. Are you sure?" Seems like basic common sense for a system this strict

@dronapravin @raajkumaar91 @ramakantfbx @RailMinIndia @IRCTCofficial You dint even understand what i wrote. I never said it cant be booked.. i said when u enter age 1 it would give option of opt berth. If u r sane enough then u wont commot mistake there...since u come to know that age mentioned is incorrect..😂 This is why literacy is important 😁

@rachitjaain "Chalta hai" would have been ignoring it and moving on. I paid the penalty, accepted my mistake, and am simply asking for transparency on how ₹7,035 was calculated and why the system permits such bookings. That's accountability, not victimhood.

I made this video simply to demonstrate that it's possible. I intentionally focused on the age field at every step. In a normal booking process, it's easy to miss because opening the dropdown defaults to 1. The UX can definitely be improved, after all, what 1 year old travels alone and books their own ticket? Use your common sense.

@ramakantfbx @RailMinIndia @IRCTCofficial @raajkumaar91 So, as per this video, you mean you got lot of chance to at every step to identify the error and still you continued with 1 year age. You are so much active in taking videos etc but not watchful enough while booking ticket. Moreover, you ask for UI improvement for your mistake.

@Meta @instagram @threads My accounts (IG: ramakant_maraskole | Threads: ramakant.jpg) were suddenly blocked without any warning or clear reason. I appealed 2 weeks ago but haven’t heard back. Please look into this — would really appreciate your help.
