While the the GOP candidate gained ~6,800 more votes than in 2020, the real story is that there were over 10,211 fewer voters in the presidential race than four years ago, and Harris had nearly 20,000 fewer votes than Biden. Turnout was down 4 points compared to 2020.

And interesting quirk, while Trump improved his margin in Detroit by 2 points, Biden actually netted 858 additiona votes from Clinton's 2016 performance in the city on a stronger Democratic turnout, despite being a shrinking city. You can, indeed, squeeze blood from a turnip.

@RyanFamuliner At the Cathedral in Spokane, the priest mentioned the assassination attempt at the start of the homily, and we all prayed a Hail Mary for the victims, their families, and our country.

Making it dramatically easier for people to gamble has some major downsides.

The Washington House approved Initiative 2113 on a 77 to 20 vote. Senate approved earlier 36-13. The measure lifts state restrictions adopted in 2021 on police vehicle pursuits. It will take effect 90 days after the legislative session adjourns on March 7.
Washington State Standard@WAStateStandard
The Washington Legislature is voting today on three citizen initiatives. The measures would lift restrictions on police vehicle pursuits, prohibit income taxes, and adopt a "parents' bill of rights". #waleg washingtonstatestandard.com/2024/03/04/was…

@mrandystevens @RyMB @BrandiKruse @JimWalshLD19 If the tiny chance of this happening concerns you, you can vote at the auditor's office or use a drop box. There are likely processing and printing reasons why the outside was chosen. I don't find indulging this unfounded paranoia and victim conplex many have adopted productive.
English

@rarohla @RyMB @BrandiKruse @JimWalshLD19 Why do people get TDS? I didn't say it was logical, but I bet I could post a dozen stories of postal workers committing crimes.
And these primary declaration numbers will be used for the next 4yrs until the next one.
All I want is the declaration on the inside.

Washington's presidential primary ballots are getting a lot of attention after @elonmuskcommented on a post about them. Voters here must declare their Party on the OUTSIDE. @JimWalshLD19 will join #unDivided today to discuss: youtube.com/live/WlzLKpnIi…

@mrandystevens @RyMB @BrandiKruse @JimWalshLD19 Why would a postal worker commit a federal crime (for which USPS has its own police force) to throw away R ballots in a primary when doing so does not benefit the Ds in any way?
English

@RyMB @rarohla @BrandiKruse @JimWalshLD19 Easy. A mailman can see the R and chuck the ballot in the dumpster.
Dropping it in a ballot box lowers the risk, but trust is not exactly high with our elections system itself. ESPECIALLY in our state's largest county.
English

@ChristaStamper @jasonrantz You get a ballot for the primaries if you turn 18 by the time of the general election. There are lots of pre-registration programs for high schoolers, including automatically through the DOL if you get a driver's license
English

@jasonrantz We were shocked to receive a ballot for our son who is 17 and has obviously never registered to vote. Wonder how many other unregistered teenagers got ballots?
English

NEW: Voters are again miffed and concerned that you must check a Washington party declaration on the outside of the primary ballot return envelope. It’s not especially private.

@twizzyu @astrohxncho @AugustaPatriot @Thorongil16 Interlibrary loan, especially from a university, can often get this kind of thing

@astrohxncho @rarohla @AugustaPatriot @Thorongil16 Yeah I'm probably not ever going to be in Montgomery though lol

@AugustaPatriot @astrohxncho @Thorongil16 I fully expect this race to be impossible to map by precinct, but it would just be cool
