Higher education in India is an instrument for “effectively maintained inequality”. As elite exodus drains public universities, private institutions become the new preserve of the privileged — with no reservation, except for the rich. Upper-caste Hindus (20% of India’s population) make up over 60% of private university students. SCs, STs, OBCs, and Muslims are vastly underrepresented. Reservation can rectify this — public universities show it clearly. Article 15(5) and Supreme Court rulings have cleared all legal hurdles. The state has full authority to mandate reservation in private higher education institutions — aided or unaided — for SCs, STs, and OBCs. It’s time to act. Extend affirmative action to private colleges and universities. Combine it with freeships and scholarships. Strengthen public education. Bring this issue to the political agenda — not just for justice, but to bridge the social imagination deficit. Read: indianexpress.com/article/opinio…

I am being attacked by both left & right. But I do get their frustration. For the first time, General Category is united. Just like any govt policy, Reservation is debatable. It's not my problem if some people think it's their birthright. But never mind, this is just a start.

This is exactly the kind of mindset I am fighting against— dividing people on the basis of caste and religion. It's a shame that someone with such a radical mindset calls himself an educator.

Imagine having #Reservation in an organisation like DRDO, responsible for developing defence technologies of a country. Is this even safe? Shouldn't merit be the only criteria for hiring in defence? This is beyond absurd.
