While the “patent cliff” scenario is expected to affect most of the Big Pharma companies - $PFE $JNJ $NVS $BMY $ABBV $MRK $SNY and others🧵👇, one company stands out - $LLY. This excellent @evaluatepharma 📊👇 is another testimony of Eli Lilly’s far-sighted strategy (and $NVO to some extent) and how it helps $LLY to strengthen its dominance in the BioTech and Pharma sector. Unlike other Big Pharma companies which are expected to have negative growth rates by 2030, Eli Lilly is expected to generate almost $50B in sales above the average growth rate - mostly due to the company’s intensive investment in R&D! In order to fully understand the key catalyst behind the recent increased M&A activity in the BioTech and Pharma ecosystem here is an excellent 📊👇 by @evaluatepharma which wonderfully shows just how big of an impact the “patent cliff” scenario is expected to have on big Pharma companies such as $MRK, $JNJ, $BMY, $NVS, $PFE and $RHHBY. As of today more than 400 separate drugs are due to face patent expiry and loss of exclusivity over the next 6 years! Out of the 400 - 68 drugs will be blockbusters at the time of expiry and the top-10 blockbusters are worth $126B in combined at-risk revenues - with Merck’s KEYTRUDA at the top! Big Pharma are running out the time!
