The whining about featuring Obama praising Stevens in an ad is funny to those of us who remember when AES was receiving flattering comparisons to Obama which he rejected out of hand on the grounds that Obama is bad.

Plastique Tiara having this track record on All Stars 9 and still not making the Top 3 is one of the biggest injustices in Drag Race history. #DragRace

Reminder HRC had a plan on her platform to move ACA to UHC. It was workable including a public option Bernie said no, we need M4A & waved his papers of bullet points around. 10 years later, fewer people have healthcare because of Bernie & Trump.

Rent Control means "young people pay old people's rent" San Francisco had rent control. I had many female friends lured into living with creepy old SF dudes who were paying 10% of market rate just because they'd been there for 40 years. It never went well. (To put it mildly, some were horrific) Of course, they are being forcibly subsidized by landlords and the new renters paying 10x the rent for the apartment next door. It is an INSANE SYSTEM, doomed to obvious failure. But it sure gets people elected.

Rent control makes new residents pay their neighbors' rent.

I would argue that Hunter Biden is actually the perfect behavioral *contrast* to Platner. When Hunter talks about his past, he's "messy." There's a texture to his stories & his emotionality. Platner was smooth & robotic. Hunter also has a narrative arc, how he got from point A to point B. His story is continuous. Platner's arc was choppy. Everything was atomized. Whatever you think about Hunter Biden, it's clear he's telling a story about his life he largely believes in. That was never the case with Platner. He never had any of the regular texture, emotional leakage, diversions, or narrative "tissue" of a person telling the truth about themselves. He was taking "chunks" and explaining the chunks in isolation. Look back at clips and you'll see what I'm talking about. Also Hunter doesn't have a martyr/grievance complex. He's certainly arrogant, but on the "normal" range. It was one of the reasons it was kind of shocking that Hunter defended Platner (the most shocking reason was that Platner had been accused of domestic violence). Ex-addicts are often astute at spotting bullshit. Many were onto Platner from the very beginning. Regardless, the men are very different. One is a normal guy who's done bad things and continues to have regular human messiness. The other guy is wearing a mask.

Graham Platner is just Hunter Biden with worse ink: a downwardly-mobile egomaniac whose inexplicable sex appeal makes him especially bad news. joshbarro.com/p/graham-platn…

This is unsustainable and bad, and has created a massive culture of functional benefits fraud that every active-duty service member and every veteran knows about. Like similar feel-good cases of spending, it's political suicide to touch, so I guess we'll see how high it can go.

US Veterans' Benefits payments as a % of Total US Defense Department spend, 1959-present. Veterans' Benefits now a record 27% of DoD spend (and ~8% of total US Federal receipts), rising far faster than both DoD spend & Federal receipts.
